Race for the Top 4 seeds - bobcat95 - 02-20-2012 09:47 AM

Bracketbusters is over, so it's time to move on to the stretch run of the conference. With the new format of the tournament, it's more important than ever to grab one of the top 4 seeds at the conference tournament. Here are the remaining schedules:

1. Akron - 11-1 (BGSU, @OU, UB, @KSU)
2. Buffalo - 9-3 (OU, MU, @UA, BGSU)
3. Kent State - 9-3 (@MU, @BGSU, OU, UA)
4. Ohio - 8-4 (@UB, UA, @KSU, @MU)
5. Bowling Green - 7-5 (@UA, KSU, MU, @UB)
6. Eastern Michigan - 6-6 (NIU, BSU, @WMU, @UT)
7. Western Michigan - 5-7 (BSU, @UT, EMU, @CMU)
8. Toledo - 4-8 (CMU, WMU, @NIU, EMU)
9. Miami - 4-8 (KSU, @UB, @BGSU, OU)
10. Ball State - 4-8 (@WMU, @EMU, CMU, NIU)
11. Central Michigan - 3-9 (@UT, NIU, @BSU, WMU)
12. Northern Illinois 2-10 (@EMU, @CMU, UT, @BSU)

Toledo's remaining schedule is primed for a shot to win out, and possibly claim a share of the MAC West title. Those 5-8 spots are also important for gaining home court for the first round.

UB with three left at home should hopefully be able to fend off Kent but, at the very least, should stay ahead of Bowling green..

i think there's another team you need to be worried about staying ahead of rather than BG.

Very big game on Wednesday night at Alumni Arena.. Bobcats coming in with som confidence after their Brackbuster win and UB trying to end a two-game losing skid... Should be a great one to watch.

I was talking about for a top 4 spot, I am assuming that Akron, Kent, Ohio, and UB will all stitch one up..

If home court holds
Akron 13-3
Buffalo 12-4
Kent St 11-5
BGSU 9-7
Ohio 9-7
EMU 8-8
Toledo 7-9
WMU 7-9
Miami 6-10
Ball St 6-10
CMU 5-11
NIU 3-13

even in this scenario, we would get the #4 seed over BG since we split with them and we would have beaten Akron while BG would have been swept by the Zips - if it plays out like this.

With last nights Kent Loss this game is huge for UB and OU...

Winner is pretty much the #2 seed at this point and the loser is #4 or #3...

I believe Kent is actually above UB right now.. Ohio, UB and Kent are all tied, but the Bulls would have the worst record amongst tied teams at 1-3...

RE: Race for the Top 4 seeds - OhioBobcatJohn - 02-25-2012 10:09 PM

Akron can punch their ticket to atleast the NIT with a win on Sunday. Not many spots available in NIT for Ohio, UB or Kent State. Would guess CBI and CIT for those three if they fail to win MAC tournament. There will be a lot of upsets in these conference tournaments that knock the MAC out of NIT at-large. PAC Ten, ACC, SEC, CUSA and A-10 with tons of NIT caliber teams.
