John Klein: OU, OSU open to idea of future Big 12 expansion (Link) - CardinalJim - 02-19-2012 10:45 AM

This morning's piece from John Klein in Tulsa. Not much new. He's just following Tramel's lead pushing the Oklahoma and Oklahoma State agenda. Judging from the article, discussions could be turning to 11.

The printer friendly version doesn't show, CJ. It's probably because I didn't choose the story to be printed, and it's cookie specific...

David Boren has been very vocal about going back to 12.

I agree. I do enjoy watching Oklahoma and Oklahoma State manipulate their local media to get their message out. Texas has let this go on for a couple of weeks now. It is going to be interesting to see how Kirk Bohl of the Austin Statesman responds in the next few days.

There are only two voices that matter in that conference. One of them is OU, and the other is NOT Oklahoma St. And out of the two that matter, one always seems to override the other when push comes to shove.

I can agree with that. It's usually Oklahoma voicing its opinion and Oklahoma State repeating it. The other voice you reference and I want to hear is Texas. Thus my comment about Kirk Bohls who has a direct line to Dodds.

Kirk has a direct line to Mack Brown not Deloss, Chip is Deloss's mouth piece

"The Big 12 Conference may be comfortable at 10, but don't be surprised if the league decides to go to 11, 12 or more teams in the near future."

Well 14 schools would match the SEC and ACC.

Same thing that has been said previously. Big 12 will expand if the schools will get more money from their existing TV contract. Problem is ESPN will want to renegotiate with years added to the current deal. They have to decide if they'll get more money from the open market or get stuck with a deal with ESPN.

Thanks for the clarification. So Chip would be more accurate than Bohl's?

Isn't David Boren and Mitch McConnell KY senator old political buddies?

Yes they were in Congress together.

OU and OSU are smart enough to know what is best for their programs, and usually agree on most everything, especially when it comes to keeping the Longwhorns in check. I think the Big XII will pull the trigger on teams 11 & 12 sooner rather than later. Too much activity to just be fan's wishful thinking.

If they went to 14 taking say Rutgers, UConn, Louisville and Cincy it'd be a true move to get themselves in the Eastern timezone. It would also drive directly at the ACC, SEC and Big Ten.

I am officially over Louisville to the Big 12 threads by CardinalJim. Take a break pal.

If BYU & Lou come on, ok. Then where would you go for #s 13 & 14?
Cincy? Air Force? Tulsa? Brown?

I can appreciate your position but you need to place close attention to this situation. This isn't simply a Louisville to The Big 12 issue. Big 12 expansion could well change the conference that your program has chosen to travel halfway cross county to play in.

Sure we can all pretend like nothing is going to happen. Set around play with our peckers and sing kumbaya but that won't change a thing. It is best to stay informed. I know if I was a Boise fan I would be raising ten kinds of he11 about my school going so far to play football in a conference with so many teams trying to get out.

With that being said, I would advise you stay on the conference specific boards if you don't like reading about conference expansion on the CONFERENCE EXPANSION board.

C'mon, what was Boise State supposed to do? Stay in the Mountain West for $1.5M a year? Since the teams left behind are blowing up the conference, I'm guessing no. coast to coast is the way to go for Boise State,

RE: John Klein: OU, OSU open to idea of future Big 12 expansion (Link) - War Torn Ruston - 02-19-2012 01:26 PM

Boise State didn't have a choice really. The last thing they wanted is to be in a position like ECU or Fresno State. Do more than enough and still get left out in the cold.
Plus Boise in The Big East is a bigger deal than Louisville in football. Boise State got ratings on name alone. Louisville football could not do that. They need in one of the top 6 conferences to survive. Boise could of made it in the Mountain West but I guess they figured they should go ahead and get paid as well.

I am really having a hard time trying to picture Rutgers and UConn amongst the Big12 even though that would give them more of an eastern appeal I just can not see it happening. I honestly think if the Big12 goes beyond 12 teams to say 14 or possibly more you are going to see teams from Florida pursued more so than Rutgers and UConn IMO.
