Troy thread - MICHAELSPAPPY - 02-18-2012 10:17 AM

This is a game we ought to win. As usual, Troy lives by the 3. And they shoot it pretty well, but no where near as well as teams like Denver. Their defense is pretty bad, both overall and from the arc. They do take pretty good care of the ball.

If our big men have strong games and our perimeter defense is on, we ought to win.

They average 1712 for home games.

We are the better team. However, it is still a road game. On the other hand, that hasn't mattered much to this team since conference season started.

RE: Troy thread - MICHAELSPAPPY - 02-18-2012 11:02 AM

The last two games they have started 6-9, 6-5, 6-4, vs. our 6-10, 6-10, 6-6. And they really have no one to bring off the bench in the post that has any size or experience. Either Will will have a huge night, or they will have to pay so much attention to him that someone else ought to be wide open all night. Courtney?

RE: Troy thread - outsideualr - 02-18-2012 11:42 AM

I read in one article that they hit 11 straight three's against some team. We can't let that happen or it will be a long night. Transition defense will be a key so that they don't get open three point attempts.

This has "trap" written all over it. Hopefully we stay alert!

RE: Troy thread - outsideualr - 02-18-2012 12:17 PM

If we get beat, I don't think it isn't because we aren't prepared. They'll just have a better night. Our team has done great on the road this year, and I can't see a letdown. Too much riding on each game now with a championship in sight. The key will be only giving them one shot each time down the floor. With our size advantage, we should be able to control the boards, and maybe get some second chance points on our offensive end as well.

Just remember WKU.

RE: Troy thread - outsideualr - 02-18-2012 03:14 PM

I'm sure Steve hasn't let them forget WKU.

Folks on here poo-pooed the "excuse" that we had to play WKU 39 hours after playing ULL, while they had a week off. I agreed that it was not an excuse, but was an explanation why we folded at the end. What's interesting to me is that I have seen a couple of national articles in which SEC coaches were complaining about having to play Thursday-Saturday games because of the ESPN contract. Felt it really put them at disadvantage playing against teams that had played on Wednesday. That seemed like a rather poor excuse to me.

Watching the women warm up. Guess I will root for "Little Rock" rather than the "Trojans" in this game

Troy thread - RBL - 02-18-2012 08:17 PM

Clark and Cobbins played a lot tonight and looked good.

Looking at the stats - MICHAELSPAPPY - 02-19-2012 10:41 AM

Will is 1 of 7 over the last two games for shots inside the arc. Post up game has just disappeared completely. We need him doing something beside shooting 3's. Maybe when he gets healed up.

Huge game by Javes. 11 boards and 3 blocks. Coming on strong late.

Ben Dillard 10 of 10 from the line?! Off the bench? Our new secret weapon.

But give the game ball to Tramar. He gave us outstanding bench play when we had to have it to stay in the game.

RE: Troy thread - outsideualr - 02-19-2012 10:51 AM

I forgot about Tramar when talking about honoring our Seniors. And he's one of my personal favorites on the team. Talk about a nice young man, and a ferocious competitor on the floor. I'll really miss Tramar and appreciate his many contributions to our program. He'll always be one of my special Trojans.

RE: Troy thread - MICHAELSPAPPY - 02-20-2012 08:31 AM

We got beat on the boards by a small perimeter-minded team. That can't be good. However, we did hold them to 37% overall and 30% from the arc. When you play that kind of defense you can afford to get beat by one on the boards.

RE: Troy thread - MICHAELSPAPPY - 02-20-2012 09:17 AM

We shot only 36% from inside the arc. Not good.

RE: Troy thread - outsideualr - 02-20-2012 10:46 AM

Our best inside scorer is Courtney, and he sat out practically all of the first half, and later fouled out. Had he been able to play his usual minutes I believe our percentage inside the arc would have been better.
