While there may still be one seat left at the table, its likely Temple will not join any BCS confrence. Its time Temple University thanks the MAC for helping save our program and atheltic department in general.
For all the BS and message board banter, thank you for helping make Temple relevant again. Hopefully the MAC can become the top non BCS conference (again)-- together.

Temple has shown that they now belong with the upper echelon of the MAC in football and I'm glad they've turned the corner. It would be nice to see if Temple basketball could come in too and show us how they think it should be done.

Is there any possibility at all that your administration would consider such an offering...my "gut" reaction to an all sports invite is no, especially now with Memphis gone. Not so sure about football only. Your thoughts?

I don't think they would consider it for either. Maybe FB-only if money was there but I don't see how a C-USA or Alliance deal could be worth that much considering the markets they just lost.

Not worth it. Plus Temple values local rivalries, I keep hearing. UMass & Buffalo are Eastern States. Ohio is a border State.

I would think that unless the administration absolutely gives up on the BE then they will stay in the MAC because I would think that the money will only be slightly greater in CUSA which means money wise it would take a long term stay to make up the initial costs of joining CUSA.
Also I am happy to hear some thanks. To be sure that I like having Temple (and UMass) in the MAC and while I would love to have you for basketball too I understand why, at least for now, it is not a workable idea.

The biggest issue with Temple moving to CUSA is not the buyout or whether they'll let Temple come in football only.
The issue is Temple continues to be on the short list for the Big East. Yes they haven't been accepted yet to the BE but they've been discussed as a serious candidate for the conference. There is going to be more expansion in the Big East by 2015 and a few schools like Louisville, UConn or Rutgers may soon be heading out the door.
Big East lineup
2012 (8 teams)
2013 (14 teams) SDSU, Boise, Houston, SMU, Memphis, UCF
2014 (11 teams) w/o Syracuse, Pittsburgh, West Virginia
2015 (12 teams) Navy
The Big East still has a gap year where they aren't going to have an even number of teams. While not announced, Air Force, Army and BYU for the most part have open invites to join the conference. After that group Temple might be the most appealing.
BE Candidates
Eastern Spots (7)
1. Army
2. Temple
3. East Carolina
4. UMass
Western Spots (5)
1. Air Force
2. BYU
3. UNLV
4. Hawaii
The Big East has to have 12 schools for 2014 and they currently only have 11. A simple addition would be to add Air Force to go to 12. That was easy enough.
Next the BE will have to balance for 2015 with 13 schools slated for that year with Navy joining. Does the Big East go after Army? Or does the Big East try another Memphis type of move and go after Temple to further improve the basketball brand?
The focus of the Big East expansion has moved from markets (UCF, Houston discussed back in 2010) to academies (Navy, Air Force were set to join in August 2011) to football power (Boise State emerged in October in 2011) and now to basketball power (Memphis in Feb 2012).
Given that basketball power is where the Big East's expansion mind is focused right now Temple could honestly be that next in line school.

I doubt if Temple would take an all sports invite to CUSA with Memphis moving to the BE....better bball teams in the A10. For football only, don't see the point. I think Temple like any of the top MAC football schools would take a football only invite to a BCS AQ conference, other then that the money would have to be awfully good to make a move worthwhile. I think the MAC could be in a good position come 2013 when the AQ agreement expires....with Memphis for football to me at that point you have to consider the BE a "mid major" for football. Just wish we could get at least 4 primary bowl tie ins instead of 3.

Not a Temple flame, I promise! But, what does the BE get out of bringing in Temple? Obviously a very good BB program. Also, a better FB team than what Memphis has to currently offer. With their own T-Boone Pickens lite (the FedEx guy) Memphis should be able to put some money into their FB program and make it more respectable than it has been.
What they do get with Memphis is a new market that they currently are not in. Would Temple increase TV sets in Philadelphia over what they currently have with Villanova? If it was about a strong fan base then ECU would already be in a BCS conf.

Memphis was primarily a basketball move and I think Temple would be as well. The BE commish may be expecting the auto AQ to go away (for everyone) by 2015, so they may now be looking beyond football for their revenue streams.

I agree with your point about markets as what is totally driving these moves. Aside from TV, I doubt either Temple or Rutgers wants another conference rival recruiting in the same area. As I said in other posts on this board, I'm a Temple fan that likes being in the MAC. Also, after 2013 the college football landscape will change and I think the AQ will be a thing of the past. Will the MAC every be at the same level as the SEC, Big 10, Pac 12 or Big 12....no and to be honest I don't think the Big East will be either. But I do think the conference could set their sights to be among the best of the rest

That kind of what I was thinking, whats the point of CUSA football only right now? No team in the MAC, not even Temple or UMass would pay 2 million to leave the conference just to play football with CUSA. Like you say the money is just not that much better.
As to the bowl set up there will be opportunities for the MAC and SunBelt to poach a bowl game or two unless CUSA pulls some decent members out of their hat.
