Looks like La Lech finally contacted my source - eager eagle - 01-23-2012 10:15 AM

I was told and posted more than once that my source has said cusa would be selecting a team or teams in large markets that have invested heavily in their programs. A poster on the latechbbb.com board yesterday pasted an e-mail he had sent to one of their athletic officials and his response. They have deleted the post, not the thread, and obviously are displeased that the official responded to the effect that I am afraid now that markets are the primary driving force behind selecting a team.

-----------

About 30min has elapsed since my post on this and they have since deleted the entire thread. I cant understand why because it was a top official, a man whom they SHOULD trust, and he was apparently relenting to pressure from all corners as to their status and how Tech stood in the selection process. He was open, honest, and said absolutely NOTHING that would hurt their cances, only that he saw tv market as THE factor now in team selection. Thus, those who talk about history, tier 1, reputation, records, attendance, etc could have stopped their bickering because it has ABSOLUTELY no bearing on market.

If the new merged conference picks another school first over LaTech they would be incredibly stupid. You know your market size b.s. is the same reason a crappy program like SMU with their 10,000 fans on a good day got in the BE over USM. So your joy over LaTech is no different than the wall USM is facing.

A large market team is only part of the equation. There are a couple other factors as well. Like I said previously, unless a school adds value to CUSA/MWC they will not be added.

I don't understand why you would expand if the merger is coming soon. No reason to expand if you are merging.

But then again a lot of this stuff is coming from either la tech or app state. Until I hear a CUSA AD comment on expansion than I don't believe it.

RE: Looks like La Lech finally contacted my source - nastybunch - 01-23-2012 11:46 AM

I would live to have Tech on board, and they have certainly earned it.

RE: Looks like La Lech finally contacted my source - T_Won1 - 01-23-2012 11:57 AM

There was a discouraging personal email from Tech's AD to a Tech supporter. It was basically saying Tech has many positives to offer, but a big television market is not one of them, and unfortunately, that is probably the main thing CUSA is interested in. It's really nothing new. Tech fans have to hope that the value we add is greater than the value of a big market school. Discouraging, but not hopeless. Personally, I'm thinking UTSA will be the choice.... their market and attendance in year one is impressive.

RE: Looks like La Lech finally contacted my source - LR Eagle - 01-23-2012 11:58 AM

They haven't earned anything yet. They have one good year people think they're a powerhouse. They bring nothing to C-USA and all they do is hurt USM's recruiting. If you want a school with one good year and no market, why not take Arky State or FIU?

Why keep expanding our footprint? I'd rather us shrink our footprint and create more rivalries. LaTech isn't going to hurt our recruiting.

We're already competing with them for recruits in LA and SW MS. Why would we promote them? Let them rot in the WAC or Suck Belt. They contribute nothing but an easy road trip and we can play them OOC if we want that.

I'm ecstatic that a lousy program like La Tech is not being considered.

If Tech and USM were both in Idaho, I would agree with you. But there are thousands of kids in our area who can play at our schools. If you want the elite kids you're going to have to beat the SEC teams, not Tech.

Yes, a few of them but isn't that the point of competition? They are one of the few schools that brings a good amount of fans to "The Rock". The SEC is what is now because of the rivalries that have been cultivated due to their proximity to one another.

I will be ecstatic when Memphis can beat a Sun Belt team in football again.

If you love the Sun Belt so much, join them.

The $EC is what is because it is made up of some of the strongest programs in the country at the time the big TV deals started getting inked. La Tech has a smaller stadium than USM, a smaller budget, no market, and every sport other football sucks. The love affair some people have for them us just silly. Take UNT, FIU, and ODU and call it a day. Those schools have markets don't poach anyone else's recruiting territory.

RE: Looks like La Lech finally contacted my source - MadEagle - 01-23-2012 12:50 PM

Lets add Temple and FIU since we're adding based on markets, God i'm actually tired of all this expansion bullsh!t. It really took away from a great c-usa college football season.

Do you not understand how those programs became that powerful? Rivalries! They weren't just given all of this money, they built their programs and conference up due to rivalries. Almost every school is an easy 4 to 6 hour drive away from one another, with the exception of a few. Heck, some are closer than that. I'm not saying Tech is a perfect fit but a team in Miami is beyond ridiculous. I think we need to close the gaps between UTEP and Marshall/ECU.

Honestly, I don't understand all the hate for Tech.
