New Big East - SuperFlyBCat - 12-07-2011 10:17 AM

These are the current RPI style rankings of the teams leaving or left before they ever came.
#18-TCU
#26- WVU
#63- Pitt
#85- Syracuse

These are the current RPI style ranks for those coming in.
#4- Boise State
#14- Houston
#46- San Diego State
#61- SMU
#82- UCF (Though an off year this year, last year they finished #20)

Honestly its an upgrade in quality. The only one I'll miss is WVU...

RE: New Big East - SmallVoice - 12-07-2011 10:25 AM

Since it can be argued that TCU was never in, if their ranking is excluded from the discussion, the improvement in the new Big East is even more striking.

RE: New Big East - BullsBEAST - 12-07-2011 10:42 AM

From a purely on the field standpoint the league is stronger right now. Unfortunately, as you have seen, that means nothing. We lost a lot in the way of history and national recognition, which will translate to money and respect.

RE: New Big East - Brick City Pirate - 12-07-2011 10:47 AM

It will be interesting to see their rankings after another year in their respective conferences. UCF might improve, don't know about SDS. SMU likely to stay the same. Houston and Boise likely to drop off since they are losing their QB's.

Yes, there will be a drop off since we're losing Case Keenum, but it won't be that bad. Then again, that depends on whether or not Sumlin stays and who we get to replace him if he goes elsewhere.

RE: New Big East - DFW HOYA - 12-07-2011 11:02 AM

When does UH get that new stadium off the ground? Would it play a game or two at Reliant in the interim?

Define bad. Houston will also lose most of it's top skill players as well. I suspect, depending on the out of conference schedule Houston will lose 3 games with Sumlin and 4-5 without.

Exactly, and yet so few around here seem to recognize that. They seriously think that if Pitt has a 64 RPI or Sagarin while SDSU has a 40 RPI/Sagarin, that we have "upgraded" ourselves by losing Pitt and gaining SDSU.

And nothing could be further from the truth. Heck, if dropping Pitt and adding SDSU was an improvement, why didn't the ACC just pass over Pitt and invite SDSU to begin with? Idiotic thinking around here. 03-banghead

Glad you guys are happy with it! Everybody is happy, then. Best of luck with the new Big East.

04-cheers

We'll most likely play one or two YEARS at Reliant depending on when we can break ground.

RE: New Big East - Ring of Black - 12-07-2011 11:42 AM

I'll miss Pitt too - a very driveable rivalry.

SDSU loses a 4-year starting QB (although he had a less than stellar senior season and some fans think we'll be better off without him), 3 of 5 starting OL and may lose star RB Ronnie Hillman if he chooses to enter the draft. All said it will be hard to repeat the success of the past few seasons next year but by 2013 we should be in better shape to enter the Big East.

We do have some special players who should see their first season in the Big East as seniors. Of our 7 All Confernce 1st-Teamers 5 are underclassmen including sophomores TE Gavin Escobar and DB Nat Berhe. Escobar is an amazingly gifted 6-6 tight end with terrific hands and quickness, if he doesn't go pro early the Big East will get a load of this kid. Nat Berhe is an undersized but hard hitting hybrid safety who just always seems to be around the ball. In addition our leading receiver, Collin Locket, will be a senior in 2013. He's got speed, speed, speed but has had issues with "the drops". He's a former DB and hopefully works on looking the ball all the way into his hands but has a ton of talent and could be special.

For starters...Names...

We are SDSU, not SDS (now if you want to piss us off on purpose, call us SDS 04-cheers).

San Diego State football is on a steady walk, heading upwards. Back to back 8-4 seasons and we think we will be better in all of the next 3 years.

If Ronnie Hillman comes back (and he should), the Aztecs should win 8 or 9 next season.

I do 1-2 away games a year and Pitt was an easy one. Never went to Cuse and never went to WVU.

For UC fans we still have Louisville, an hour down 71, and Miami-Oh.
Tampa is popular with UC fans and I certainly plan on hitting DFW and Houston. Direct flights on Delta and American are easy.

OOC games @OSU, @Purdue, @Illinois etc all an easy drive.

What happens if the Big 12 takes Houston and SMU from the Big East?

Texas was a s s raped once by the other schools allowing TCU in.
I don't see that happening again.

Don't see that happening unless UT leaves for another conference or goes indy.

I see the XII falling apart when UT and OU/OSU find better options. The Big East could be there to pick up some good programs if that were to happen.

ESPN wasn't offering the ACC millions to take SMU and SDSU. This was all about a cash grab.

As long as the current AD Deloser Dudds is at UT, we will never be allowed in the Big 12. He has defacto control over the Big 12 and has for many years.

Also, a warning to WV. I am sure you guys think you will have it better in the Big 12. Think again. It will be a tough road for you against UT and Oklahoma. Enjoy the Orange bowl this year because it is going to be a very long time before you see a BCS game again. If you ever do get good, UT will have you investigated for NCAA violations. It is just how they roll.

It might take SMU, but not Houston. Why? Texas hates us, and we hate Texas. As long as Texas is in the Big 12, there's no way in hell we're joining that league.
