I'm totally thinking about heading to that game.

Memphis on New Year's Eve, Bitchez! Hell yeah!

RE: Big East bowl matchups (official) - UConn-SMU - 12-04-2011 09:58 PM

Pitt & SMU will be an interesting game. SMU may be missing their best QB (Padron). And they'll be without the #1 RB in C-USA (Zach Line). If I had to set the odds, I'd say Pitt by 7-9 points. It would be Pitt by 3 if Padron & Line were playing.

These teams played in the 1983 Cotton Bowl, a defensive slugfest won by SMU (7-3). Playing in the game were Eric Dickerson, Craig James, and Dan Marino.

I remember watching that game on TV. Wow, have times changed. Back then, Pitt and SMU were college football titans.

Me, too. I remember thinking it was crazy that the score was so low with all of that offensive talent. I also remember that SMU had the best uniforms & helmets in college football. Watching that game from my living room in Connecticut, I never thought I'd end up going to school at SMU.

3 of 6 bowls vs. ACC opponents. I'd say look out Louisville. NCState has been horrendous this year but has played great each of the last 2 games. Making Clemson look like they didn't even belong on the same field with NCState. Vandy just stomped a good Wake Forest team but that doesn't mean they can compete with Cincy. I'll probably end up watching 5 of these 6 bowls eventhough I'm not a BE fan anymore.

IIRC, the game was played on one of those wicked January days in Dallas where there's ice all over the astro-turf, bitter cold, windy, etc. Kind of like the ND-Houston Cotton Bowl in 1979.

You clearly hate Pitt, which as a WVU fan you should. BTW, my girlfriend lives in Fairfax so I'm completely jealous of you. Will be visiting there this week. 04-cheers

I'll watch the Orange, Liberty, and Champs for sure. Not sure about the others.

03-shhhh Nah, I'm being completely sincere! It warms my heart to see Pitt back in beautiful Birmingham for a 2nd straight year, playing in that gorgeous facility they have down there. It's a fate they richly deserve.

Fairfax is a great area if you can stand the cost of living and the traffic. I'm close to downtown, not far from GMU. Hoping to get to more GMU basketball games this year. The CAA has started down a bit so far this year but it's usually a great league.

Which neither she nor i can stand, so we're probably moving to New Mexico (seriously!). I'll be staying at her place, which is near the corner of Fair Lakes Parkway and Ox Road, wherever that is, LOL (never been before).

A nice suburban area, near the Fair Oaks Mall and Fair Lakes Shopping Center. Both of which I avoid this time of year, heh. Folks get crazy around the holidays.

RE: Big East bowl matchups (official) - Wilkie01 - 12-05-2011 09:53 AM

We have three interesting and timely match ups in these bowls:

1) BBVA: Pitt vs SMU compares the loss of Pitt to the replacement, SMU. Will it prove if Pitt is a big loss to the Big East are not?

2) Belk: UofL vs NC State could prove how Louisville could fit in the ACC, for the 15th or 16th member.

3) Pinstripe: Iowa State vs Rutgers how does Rutgers stack up as B12 expansion candid?

04-cheers

I see what you're getting at, but IMO a single bowl game provides virtually zero information about any of these issues.
