KSU vs ETSU- Future Plans - meatEATINGbirds1 - 11-05-2011 10:51 AM

Gloves are off! Which school has the brighter future? Who will make a move to another conference first, etc?

If you had to buy stock in one of the programs, which program are you investing in?

There's no doubt that KSU has the brightest future at this point. We are in the middle of a change in president, which has given our fan base a reason to be excited and hopeful. We will get back to you one year from now. If nothing has changed, and looks like it won't change, ETSU is doomed to the bottom of D-I or worse forever.

I would buy stock in KSU. I think they have the potential to go all the way up. Of course, there's a transitional period at ETSU, so we'll see what changes come about in the wake of a new president's selection.

KSU has the potential to be playing football, but are years away from winning in basketball right now or consistently drawing more than flies to the turd that is their on court product. Plus, nobody is driving an hour outside of the city to cover a team that isn't named Georgia, not with Ga. Tech, Ga. State and various other SEC teams with fan bases there. KSU will get some attention when Belmont goes down there and embarrasses them, that's about it.
I wouldn't buy stock in either until Kennesaw is playing football and the ETSU situation is resolved with the president.

I agree. When you have the kind of record that KSU does right now, you shouldn't talk about moving up. They need to win in the A-Sun before they think of a better conference...IMHO

I would tend to agree but you have to realize that KSU is playing by a different set of rules than any other school in the Atlantic Sun. They will soon have SCHOLARSHIP football and that now drives the ship. The other sports, basketball included, are just along for the ride.

If their other sports stink worse than a fart in a crowded elevator then no other conference will take them. Football may drive the bus but they can't be the A-Sun's version of Auburn basketball.

RE: KSU vs ETSU- Future Plans - Goldfinger - 01-11-2012 03:31 AM

Ksu has time on their side. They have a brand new coach who has a couple of years to put together a program before football comes into being and a conference change will be necessary. Etsu on the other hand is stuck with barrow, an angry but passive fanbase, and the hope one man is going to reverse course. However, even if he does they will be fighting a ticking clock. Meanwhile UCF just hired etsu former legitimate AD. The whole thing is quite amusing if you ask me.

I would agree if KSU football was heading to the DI-A level because there are so many choices, but if the SoCon is looking for a DI-AA scholarship program, who else or what other options do they have?

Also, see Virginia Tech's other sports outside of football when they went Big East full membership and ACC full membership. They ranked near the bottom in all sports except football.

RE: KSU vs ETSU- Future Plans - Goldfinger - 01-11-2012 05:03 PM

Other sports don't matter. They never have and they never will.

This might be the most relevant point I've read on this subject.

RE: KSU vs ETSU- Future Plans - Buccaneerlover - 01-13-2012 04:57 PM

There are two reasons why Kennesaw would work in the SoCon. Chattanooga and Ga. Southern. That's it. You have to recognize what the SoCon has done with their last several expansions.
Samford
CofC
Davidson
Wofford.
What do these schools have in common? They're all private schools. When App leaves, that leaves very few public schools left. What's their purpose of staying? Western Carolina will be better suited in the Big South as will UNC-G, it's a lateral move that puts aligns them with more Carolina based institutions. That leaves Chattanooga and Ga. Southern as the only true public schools left. And yes I realize The Citadel takes federal money but they operate more like a private school than they do a public. All of a sudden the SoCon isn't that appealing overrall for one, and two they're not going to look at a high enrollment public institution when it simply doesn't align with what they're doing, especially when KSU doesn't give great basketball and football would be 5-10 years away from being competitive. Everything boils down to who moves up from FCS to FBS, Division II to Division I and how many more state universities in the south that aren't playing football start playing football.

RE: KSU vs ETSU- Future Plans - ETSUfan1 - 01-13-2012 11:21 PM

My hope is that App goes to the Sun Belt. Then I'm hoping the Sun Belt wants one more non football school to balance things out. ETSU would be a great travel partner to App.

You can hope in one hand and crap in another. Lets see which hand gets filled first.

C of C is actually a public school, for what it's worth.

Boohoo. How bout those Owls.

RE: KSU vs ETSU- Future Plans - Goldfinger - 01-15-2012 12:06 PM

Owls are looking pretty good. New coach. New system. They have a few years to allow it to develop then comes football. How many years does barrow have left on his contract? Oh that's right it doesn't matter. You're in the asun therefore you're stuck with him for life!
