Big East Conference Call going on now - SmallVoice - 10-18-2011 12:33 PM

Howie Lindsey is tweeting that the Big East is currently holding a conference call.

No idea what this is. Anybody?

All I hear is the sound of Marinatto weeping uncontrollably....

At least he is going to have the decency to talk to the other conference leaders he says. I doubt you come out of it stronger - the Big East hasnt ever matched what it had prior to 2003. This configuration isnt likely to be stronger than the pre 2011 Big East.

He won't shed any tears. But that dumbfounded look may be permanently etched into his face...

I like Greg Auman's tweet here:

Call still ongoing, but no significant news from Big East teleconference. John Marinatto stresses continued optimism about league's future.

"Pitt and Syracuse will not be excused from 27-month exit time frame. If new members come in next season, they'd play with 14 teams."

I think you guys have a shot at Boise ST and AF joinig the league if you would just give Marinatto the boot. I hope this guy has an ace up his sleeve at the end of the call to make calling this media conference worthwhile.

I would once again refer you all to Howie Lindsey's Twitter feed for info on this conference call. It's pretty informative, even if it only tells us what we already knew or thought to be the case. Below are a few of his latest ones:

Howie Lindsey, in tweets, Wrote:Pitt and Syracuse will not be excused from 27-month exit time frame. If new members come in next season, they'd play with 14 teams.

I know it is just polite, but reporters asking Marinatto how he's doing prior to asking question is odd to me. "I'm OK," has been his answer

Marinatto says the league is considering schools that "aren't necessarily in our geographic footprint" Marinatto that is part of flexibility

Marinatto pressed on Big East expansion: "We didn't start this conference realigment and there is a right way to pursue new members..."

I guess this was part of the conference call:
Quote:Marinatto also said that the ultimate goal is to stage a Big East championship football game between division winners in New York City, most likely Yankee Stadium.

That doesn't seem like a good idea to me. As said previously by many here, at home for the top team would be better for fan travel.

I agree that this is deserving of a lot more thought. We don't want to be saddled with a CCG that nobody attends - the PR for that would be horrendous.

Yea that won't work well.
