Incidentally, Curtis Wilkinson landed at Eastern New Mexico University. Best of luck to him.

Poor Vern Lunquist, he is really getting old. Used to like him but now he makes mistake after mistake and just laughs at jokes by whomever is doing the broadcast with. Vern, I do wish we were playing out of the Atlantic 10 like you say!

I assume this is a misspelling. Maybe they were playing a team called the "buzzards"?

What I posted back in April on the "Mario Stramaglia" thread. And yeah, it's still funny.......

Here are some things I have heard about the new players:
Rembert-Good Shooter
Wilson- Great athlete and good around the basket...struggles away from the basket
Woumn-Solid PG..nothing outstanding, but a solid player
Dubose-Hearing he is the real deal. A great scorer.
Walton-Very athletic, but raw. They expect big things from him in a couple of years.

Got to check out a bit of practice the other day. Alumni, your right about Wilson, Walton looks really good, not sold on Woumm and certainly not the hype that comes with Dubose. But its early. Give them some time to adjust. Wilson and Walton develope and we get those 2013 kids, the future is bright. Need a BIG though.

With Dubose, I wonder if it's a mistake to raise expectations by comparisons to explosive, flashy athletes like Courtney and Kemba Walker. I haven't seen him play, only highlight clips. But I am struck by
the use of phrases like "quietly effective" or "silent assassin". I think that he may be a guy who can be very effective, but without some of the flash and dash that guys like Kemba or Pigram brought.

I also remember that my earliest impressions of Kevin Tiggs were that he was not as explosive as I had been led to believe. He didn't try to force things early - at the Bluenanza scrimmage this consummate slasher was content to shoot 3's from the corner. As he settled in, we got to see more assertive play.

and you may see that from dubose. it is an adjustment and does take time. J jones looks good this year too, that will help

Wouldn't you love to have the big 7 footer, Seth, here for his Senior year. I remember Sonny Smith talking about him as a freshmen..about the trememdous potential he had...[/i]

This report was written last April, but it gives us further details of McClain & Stramaglia's games:

Petey McClain-2012 (Faith Academy-Alabama Celtics) the 6-foot PG who and incredible first step and the ball is on a string which made him pretty much unstoppable in the open floor. His improved jump shot has taken his game to the next level which was the main question mark after the 2010 AAU season. McClain can finish at the rim and has added a floater to boot. He averaged 21 points and 6 assists over the tournament. McClain has an offer from Jacksonville.

Mario Stramaglia-2012 (Mountain Brook-Birmingham Ice Express) the 6-foot combo guard is showing improved ball handling skills that compliments his deadly 3-point shot. An improving mid range game should continue to raise his stock over the summer. Stramaglia averaged 18 points and 3 assist over the weekend. Stramaglia has an offer from East Tenn State.
