Love the clip where Mario has a "buzzard beater." Makes me laugh every time.
I assume this is a misspelling. Maybe they were playing a team called the "buzzards"?

A very promising, athletic set of young guards. Mario is multi-skilled, but I think that his most impressive skill is outside shooting. Ryan and Petey splitting time at point and Rembert and Stramaglia at shooting guard seems a natural division of labor.Good mid-majors have never had trouble landing solid 6'7-6'8 guys. There are boatloads of those guys who the big schools have no interest in. Its been the 6'9'-7'0 guys that the the smaller schools have had trouble landing. We've done a very poor job of finding and landing good 6'7-6'8 guys in recent years which shouldn't happen. Those kinds of guys are all over the place.
The Isiah Brown's, Drew Reed, Greg Hamlin type big man should be a regular occurrence.

It would make no sense to now sign the Haynes kids but I don't have a problem signing to guards but we gotta sign 2 guys with size with the other 2 scholarships left for next year. (assuming nobody leaves and we have more).
That's consistent with what I've read too. McClain is a prototypical point guard with tight handle and great court vision. Stramaglia, though slightly underized for a 2G, is a shooter extradorinaire with solid all-around guard skills.
Although we'll be overflowing with guards next year (Dubose, Woumn, Cooley, Rembert, Jones, McClain, Stramaglia), the following year (2013-14), we'll lose Cooley, Jones, and Dubose to graduation. I think it's wise for the coaching staff to go ahead and get two quality guards like McClain and Stramaglia and get them acclimated to our system.
Without question, we need to fill the remaining 2 scholarships with 'bigs'. I'd love to see us sign a Greg Hamlin-type. He was, IMHO, as underrated a player as we've had in some time. Greg was fundamentally sound, terrific defensively, and just good enough offensively where opponents had to respect him offensively.

Hopefully Stramaglia is better than the shooter we got from Indiana a few years back that was also suppose to be light out.
We haven't had a consistent dead eye shooter since Travis Strong.

Agreed. I'm guessing the plan was for Wilkinson and/or Johnson to be that kind of player, maybe even better. Too bad it didn't work out.
The Wilkinson/Johnson experience makes you appreciate guys like Hamilin and Eryk Thomas even more.

1:01 is what Greg gave us:
Incidentally, Curtis Wilkinson landed at Eastern New Mexico University. Best of luck to him.

Fantastic article written by Petey McClain's AAU coach about Petey. According to his coach, McClain had 22 D1 offers!

From what I am hearing Petey was signed as a PG and Mario as a SG. With 2 more scholarships to go we have to sign 2 frontcourt players. I am betting we go the juco route.
Here are some things I have heard about the new players:
Wilson- Great athlete and good around the basket...struggles away from the basket
Woumn-Solid PG..nothing outstanding, but a solid player
Dubose-Hearing he is the real deal. A great scorer.
Walton-Very athletic, but raw. They expect big things from him in a couple of years.
