Recruits for 2013-2014 - ETSUAlumni - 07-12-2011 02:59 PM COMMITTED: Mario Stramaglia RECRUITING: Petey McClain-(Alabama Celtics-Faith Academy) the 6-foot PG was clearly the best player in the tournament and took home the MVP honor. He averaged 24.5 points, 6 assist and 2 steals per game. He has great ball handling skills and great floor vision especially in the open court. McClain showed tremendous improvement in his jump shot making ability as he made eight 3-point shots in the Elite 8 game. He is being recruited by Jacksonville, Missouri State, Appalachian State, Western Carolina, East Tenn St., Tennessee, Auburn, and Virginia. Look for a huge July to push him over the top. Rhett Harrelson-(Alabama Celtics-Enterprise) the 5-foot-10 inch PG is a coaches dream when running the show. He has a high basketball IQ and makes all his teammates better. He showed the ability to knock down mid and long range jumpers all weekend long. Harrelson holds and offer from Western Carolina and is receiving interest from East Tenn State, Samford, Jacksonville and Wofford. RE: Recruits for 2012-2013 - Bucfaithful - 08-22-2011 07:42 PM Two other names for 2012/2013: 6'7" 240 PF Jhaustin Thomas (Decatur, Ga.) & 6'0" 170 lb. G Matthias Sigurdarson (Mountain Brook, Al). According to rivals, we have offered Thomas, as have some other ASUN schools. At 6'7" 245, he may be Jerald Fields-esque. Thomas is a SEC-caliber football player (see Scout link below). Siguardarson hails from Iceland and recently transferred to Mountain Brook High School, the same school as 2012 commit Mario Stramaglia. Rivals shows us as 'showing interest', but not offering. Here is information on both prospects: Matthias Sigurdarson: Rivals- http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/recruiting/player-Matthias-Sigurdarson-131024 Elite Hoops Showcase- 6-foot-0 2012 PG Matthias Sigurdarson (Mountain Brook - AL) - The recent move-in from Iceland can run a team. Knows how to get into the lane to find the open man. Handles ball well. Has William & Mary, Mercer, East Tenn State, Tenn Tech, Coastal Carolina and Samford interest. http://www.ihigh.com/allmetrosports/article_73931.html (note the evaluation of 2012 commit Mario Stramaglia on this link) Youtube video- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FDrLIms3dhM #8 Jhaustin Thomas http://espn.go.com/college-sports/basketball/recruiting/player/_/id/143224/jhaustin-thomas http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/recruiting/player-Jhaustin-Thomas-129305 Youtube clip: Football clip- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Q6iL5ejoVc Some beastly dunks: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g8dsz-X5N_E Scout (football) page (numerous SEC offers): http://kentucky.scout.com/a.z?s=48&p=8&c=1&nid=5212652 RE: Recruits for 2012-2013 - swvabucsfan - 08-23-2011 07:39 AM It's worth posting the evaluation of Mario, listed as one of the "top players" at the third annual Birmingham EliteHoopsShowcase. "6-foot-0 2012 CB Mario Stramaglia (Mountain Brook - AL) - One of the top shooters in the state, showed that tag all weekend. Has really improved his ballhandling, giving him an added dimension of scoring off the dribble. Strong defender, rebounds his position. Committed to East Tenn. State" http://www.ihigh.com/allmetrosports/article_73931.html RE: Recruits for 2012-2013 - shampoo - 08-23-2011 11:01 AM Thomas doesn't look that big, but he's probably got some muscle beneath that jersey. Nice finishes over defenders. Still would be nice to ever hear about a true center prospect. RE: Recruits for 2012-2013 - Bucfaithful - 09-24-2011 08:32 PM It looks like Jhaustin Thomas will go the big-time football route: http://blogs.ajc.com/recruiting/2011/06/26/georgia-de-nearly-commits-to-florida-gators-also-considering-south-carolina-alabama-and-clemson/ RE: Recruits for 2012-2013 - Bucfaithful - 09-29-2011 09:08 PM According to Rivals, we have offered 6'2" PG/SG DeOndre Haynes from Calera, AL: http://rivals.yahoo.com/jucojunction/basketball/recruiting/player-DeOndre-Haynes-89228 http://insider.espn.go.com/college-sports/basketball/recruiting/player/evaluation?id=118664&action=login&appRedirect=http%3a%2f%2finsider.espn.go.com%2fcollege-sports%2fbasketball%2frecruiting%2fplayer%2fevaluation%3fid%3d118664 Haynes is a true point guard with good speed, quickness and athletic ability. he pushes the ball on the break. Strengths: Haynes is a true point guard with good speed, quickness and athletic ability. he pushes the ball on the break. He is a coast to coast above the rim finisher if the transition defense does not get him under control. Haynes can make plays off the dribble for himself or teammates with his ability to beat his defender one on one off the dribble. He also does a great job of creating space to get off his step back jumper and his mid range pull up jumper after a couple rhythm dribbles is very affective as well. Haynes is a decent defensive rebounder and can make a positive play at end of clock situations. Haynes is a good on ball defender because he plays with good energy and intensity. Weaknesses: Haynes will need to add strength in order to finish at the rim through contact on a more consistent basis. He also must continue to pay attention to his decision because he over penetrates without any options at times. Also unsure about his ability to shoot the three did not see an attempt which could be because he got into the lane at will. Bottom Line: Haynes is a true point guard that is a good athlete and is athletic. He can get to the rim on the break and beat defenders off the bounce and create space for mid range jumpers. he is a good rebounder for a guard and can make plays for himself or others at end of clock situations. Haynes can run the offense as well. RE: Recruits for 2012-2013 - bucfan1968 - 09-30-2011 02:39 PM I have heard that we are in the running for some other Alabama guys due to coach Johnson's ties down there.. lots of athletes down that way! RE: Recruits for 2012-2013 - Bucfaithful - 09-30-2011 03:26 PM Our pressing need for next year's class will be frontcourt players, but the following year, 2013-14, we'll need to replace Cooley, Dubose, and Jones. This Haynes kid looks super athletic and would make a explosive tandem with the gun-slinging Stramaglia. RE: Recruits for 2012-2013 - Bucfaithful - 09-30-2011 08:35 PM Petey McClain has visited ETSU. The 6'0" PG's stock is reportedly rising quickly. |
