OT - Ohio State goes down at Purdue - bitcruncher - 02-20-2011 03:09 PM

I don't think the Buckeyes are going to retake the #1 ranking. They just lost to Purdue 76-63 @ Purdue... 03-nutkick

Kansas might remain #1 despite getting killed on Momday night. The top 4 all lost and I don't see the pollsters making SDSU #1.

It's spelled Dook!

I thought the officiating in that game was as bad as most of the Big East games. OSU was getting manhandled by Purdue with no call.

RE: OT - Ohio State goes down at Purdue - TampaKnight - 02-20-2011 06:55 PM

I think Texas is #1, at the moment. They only lost by 2. Kansas State dropped off fast mid-season. Otherwise, Duke comes next, follow by San Diego State.

1. Texas <--> Duke
2. Duke <--> Texas
3. SDSU
4. Kansas
5. Purdue

TampaKnight, only 1 team in your top 5 has a shot IMO. Kansas. The rest won't make the final 4.

It would only make sense for Duke to move up the ladder as the top teams fall. Same with SDSU. They haven't lost since the BYU 'Bummer'. Purdue knocked off OSU, and I can agree that they are a long shot to make top 5 over BYU, but beating the Buckeyes isn't an easy task.

Swap Pittsburgh with Purdue maybe. Or BYU with Purdue.

Wow you had the opposite impression as me. I thought Purdue got called for a lot of ticky tack fouls and OSU shot a bunch of free throws as a result. I thought Craft was all over the Purdue guys with the body and not ever getting called.

I thought the difference in the game was 1. Moore was out of his mind unreal and 2. OSU didn't get the ball to Sullinger nearly enough, particularly early in the second half.

RE: OT - Ohio State goes down at Purdue - bearcatmark - 02-20-2011 07:31 PM

If I had a vote I'd vote Texas. I think they are the best team in the country right now. However, I think Duke is the most likely team to win the whole thing. That said I hope both teams fail miserably...

Texas? Texas lost to Nebraska, for Christ's sake. When has Nebraska EVER been a basketball power? 03-banghead

If Nebraska has never been a basketball power...and they beat the #2 team in the country...does that make them a basketball power now? 03-shhhh 03-melodramatic

I don't disagree that Sulliger didn't get the ball enough. However, the 2 white big guys for Purdue pushed and pushed on OSU's big guys, hardly drawing a foul.

No. It makes Texas very overrated. Texas lost to both Pitt and UConn OOC...

BTW, UConn beat Texas on their home floor, and that's why everyone picks Texas over Kansas. Texas beat Kansas at Kansas. So what does it say when Texas has a loss on their home floor to UConn?

That UConn is better than Texas and Kansas...but UConn lost to Louisville twice.

This is all so confusing. Just let SDSU get #1, make everyone mad! 03-lmfao 03-banghead

RE: OT - Ohio State goes down at Purdue - ohio1317 - 02-20-2011 09:32 PM

My guess is:

1. Duke
2. Texas
3. SDSU
4. Ohio State
5. Pitt
6. Kansas

Now I don't agree with all of this for sure. I don't think Texas has any business ahead of Pitt given a worse record and head to head loss. Say what you want about how good you think Texas is now, this late in the season, the polls, in my opinion, should reflect accomplishments, not potential.

I'm also not crazy for putting Texas there because their loss was the worst of the top 4 who lost this week, with only Kansas at Kansas State even being an argument. St. Johns and Purdue are both much better than Nebraska.

I do see the argument that Purdue could move up a lot, but in the end, I'd be surprised if they go ahead of Ohio State. The Buckeyes won in Ohio by more than Purdue won in Indiana.

RE: OT - Ohio State goes down at Purdue - bearcatmark - 02-20-2011 10:18 PM

I frankly could care less about the polls though. The committee will evaluate the teams based on their body of work and that evaluation won't include stupid human polls.

RE: OT - Ohio State goes down at Purdue - bitcruncher - 02-20-2011 10:30 PM

The polls are nothing more than a popularity contest. They always have been. Anyone who thinks otherwise is an idiot, or a fan of one of the favored few...
