Winthrop lost big to Belmont with our PG injured and missing a couple starters, but then beat Jacksonville fairly easily with everyone playing. RE: Watching the Big South a year early - OrangeCamel - 01-11-2011 06:48 PM One of the Big South's fiercest rivalries takes place Thursday night...Winthrop at Coastal. Here is the link to the game thread on winthropfans.com, which includes a nice breakdown of Coastal's roster and some funny "smack" posts...... http://winthropfans.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=408&sid=996217fb257b5221a752ea9b070d6c98 Coastal currently tops the BSC standings, but one of their starters has apparently been kicked-off (???) the team. Charleston Southern at UNCW VMI at Morgan State Gardner-Webb at Tenn Tech Radford at William&Mary Davidson at Presbyterian Iona at Liberty (TV) Northeastern at UNC Asheville Ohio at Winthrop Appalachian State at High Point No Coastal, for some reason. Hopefully, this will continue next year and Campbell will participate. Will be fun to anticipate our opponent. Even better if we can host and it's on TV! RE: Watching the Big South a year early - OrangeCamel - 02-16-2011 10:53 PM Gardner-Webb defeats Coastal Carolina 59-57 in Conway Tuesday night, ending the Chanticleers' 22-game win streak. RE: Watching the Big South a year early - wufan - 02-17-2011 11:11 PM Coastal may be going on probation sometime in the near future. Just lost their leading scorer to "eligibility issues" Cliff hasn't changed a bit. Very interesting...thanks, wufan! This makes the Big South tournament (Coastal hosts the semi-finals) and next year much more interesting. Coastal was on probation in our previous Big South days, but they had a different coach and wore red/black then. RE: Watching the Big South a year early - camelsinthecreek - 02-18-2011 06:33 PM Looks like you will get your wish. From the Big South Website: "Winthrop has made the most BracketBusters appearances among the Big South members with five, and is 3-2 in the series. In 2011-12 and 2012-13, the Big South Conference will have 11 teams in the event, including new member Campbell." http://www.bigsouthsports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=25346&SPID=1987&DB_LANG=C&DB_OEM_ID=4800&ATCLID=205087313 (02-01-2011 08:09 PM)OrangeCamel Wrote: BracketBusters pairings were just announced yesterday for games to be played Feb 19th... RE: Watching the Big South a year early - OrangeCamel - 02-22-2011 09:30 PM UNCA beats CCU in Conway. Looks like the wheels are suddenly coming off at Coastal. RE: Watching the Big South a year early - wufan - 02-24-2011 11:06 AM CCU could still win the tourney with it being at home, but yes, things are looking rather interesting down there. Just to give you perspective, there is a total of 3 guys on their roster that play significant minutes that were actually recruited out of high school. In fact, this past year's class did not have a single freshman in it, they were all either transfers from other schools where the guys were kicked off their past team or JUCO's that had academic issues in their past. Holmes left the team earlier this year for KO'ing a teammate with one punch. Their SG (one of the HS recruits) didn't get recruited by anyone else b/c of a distribution charge. The rumor is that the leading scorer was being paid and is why he is being held out until NCAA makes a ruling. RE: Watching the Big South a year early - OrangeCamel - 03-15-2011 08:33 PM Asheville wins the play-in game vs UALR in OT. UNCA might be the preseason favorite next year...looks like they return everyone. UNCA definitely played well down the stretch---probably right in that they will be voted pre season fave, but they do lose John Williams which is basically one of only 2 guys they have that had a low post presence. He was huge to their success both defensively and offensively. Should be the usual suspects from the past couple years fighting at the top, UNCA/CCU/WU (if CCU doesn't go on probation and Cliff Ellis isn't fired) as all of those teams return a lot but do lose one key senior. LU may be up there, they are hard to figure out. PC will get their all conference center back from injury and he makes them a lot better. Conference should not have a dominant team but quite a few good ones. I say this not knowing anything about the Camels. RE: Watching the Big South a year early - DavieCounty Camel - 06-24-2011 01:35 PM My recently having joined this board, the news that CU plays in Bracket busters next year is as good a thing as I have read in a LONG time. REALLY cool if we could get a bonfaide tourney team in the Pope! |
