Cincinnati football season tickets surpass 20,000+ mark. - CatsClaw - 07-16-2010 06:33 PM

There are some great things happening at this program. Annual Top 25 rankings and now Top 10 and Top 5 rankings, indoor practice facilities, stadium expansions, good recruiting classes, great schedule and conference, record attendance and now this:

UC surpasses 20,000 mark in season tickets

Season ticket sales for UC football games have surpassed 20,000 for the first time in school history, the school announced today, setting the stage for a possible preseason sellout of available season tickets for this fall.

UC has set attendance records in each of the last four years. The Bearcats drew a total of 181,477 fans in 2007 before setting back-to-back regular season average records with program-best 191,788 and 203,741 in 2008 and 2009.

UC has sold out eight of its last 18 regular season games over the last three years and is currently 4,300 season ticket sales ahead of its 2009 rate according to year-to-date comparisons.

Tickets for the game against Oklahoma at Paul Brown Stadium on Saturday, September 25 will go on sale to the general public on Monday, July 26. UCATS Members and Bearcats Football season ticket holders can take advantage of their exclusive presale until Friday, July 16. Individual tickets for the game range in value from $50 for a lower level seat, $40 for a second level ticket, and $25 for an upper level ticket.

“It just shows you the passion and the commitment that this great city has and the support that they’ve given us,” Butch Jones said. “I think it speaks volumes about where our football program is and where it’s going. There’s something to be said about being part of a great venue in college football. That’s what makes college football special. Obviously, Nippert Stadium is a special place. We’re just excited to get the season started.”

It's unbelievable bit. Cincinnati fans knew that the Big East would help our program greatly. We were hoping for 30,000 per game and an occasional Top 25 ranking. We knew this program had potential but we thought it would take longer for someone to find that potential, but to be as successful on the field and the classroom as this program has been and now with attendance is unreal! I'll also say, it's great to have our own national program without having to rely on Ohio State! 04-cheers04-cheers

Now if only you guys can expand the stadium another 10K - and fill it...

If we can expand it I think we can fill it. I think the excitement of expanding the stadium and improving the program would spike our attendance higher then it already is.

Now if UC can just find the space to expand...

I think the bucks will be easier to find than the space...

The study that was done claims a "best option" expansion to only about 38K (from 35K). Hardly seems a damn bit worth the price.

I don't think expansion of Nippert is too feasible an option.

I think the more Cincinnati continues its growth as a football program you'll see more games played at Paul Brown instead of Nippert. It's not ideal but may be necessary...

If UC gets the entire city behind them, that might just be the optimum solution. The Bengals may get upset. But that's a minor detail...

Depends on the price, what kind of seating they would be adding, and whether or not they can sell it at the price they want. For example, adding corporate suites to Nippert would only a small amount of additional seating but if UC could sell them out at top dollar, then I think they might be worth adding.

Unfortunately I don't think the architects/engineers who designed Varsity Village took into account that UC might want to expand Nippert so soon.

I agree if space is limited is better to add corporate boxes. They would bring more revenues and not adding more regular seating would make them more desirable so prices could be hiked

The Bengals won't get upset, they'll get rich. They have the best lease deal in the NFL and they get a huge cut of any event that goes on in that stadium. The lease deal was so bad that the county commissioner that made the deal got voted out and conveniently got a job with..... the Cincinnati Bengals. As a Hamilton County taxpayer I to this day I am furious at the way that organization raped our city.

Sorry, I just feel the need to vent about this every once in a while.

I don't think expansion of Nippert is too feasible an option.

HNTB did a study for UC that put forth several options. One called for adding 10,000 to 12,000 seats, adding 30-40 suites and adding 400 club seats.

The one focused on in that article by Koch was merely the one that McGrew recommended from the HTNB options.

I still think it will trend towards the 10,000 expansion when its all said and done. The public sentiment for remaining at Nippert is off the charts.

Something to keep in the back of our minds is that in the One Billion Capital Campaign Drive of the last 2 years the language of its wording only precludes the use of these funds on new building construction. Renovations of existing structures is fair game if the ROI looks to be there. Got to think that selling out this season before the first kickoff is a huge marker in that regards.

That was garbage written by someone like Koch, you know he always focuses on the negative stuff. UC has said that they could expand the stadium in the neighborhood of 45,000 to 50,000 which would be very strong. As a member of UCats I remember getting information to vote on last year asking if I thought it was ok to expand Nippert to that level, add the suites and sideline seats along with club seats, and actually giving financial numbers if you were interested in purchasing them.

The bigger time atmosphere as well is a draw.

One of the issues with the MAC is they play in rinky-dink houses.

Who is curious about sitting in a 25,000 seat stadium?

Really impressive. It's amazing how quickly winning can turn around a program. I do firmly believe that as long as the Big East stays as it is, Cinci is going to continue to grow in football in both fan support and prestige (although I do think the reverse in basketball).

Good luck this year. Can't say I'm rooting for you to go undefeated in the regular season again, but do hope you have a solid season.
