RE: INside The Walls of Troy - trojanbrutha - 03-16-2012 11:00 AM Troy Opens Spring Football Practice Sunday Adam Prendergast 3/16/2012 10:13:00 AM ![]() TROY, Ala. – The Troy football team will open spring practice on the turf of Veterans Memorial Stadium Sunday at 5:30 p.m. The Trojans will practice 13 times during the spring including three scrimmages. “We've got a lot of prospecting to do. We've had a good winter and want to see who can carry that into spring training on the football field with fundaments and with the understanding that there are 11 guys out there and we have to be a team on every snap,” head coach Larry Blakeney said. “We need to try and find some way to find some chemistry before the spring is over and carry that into the summer and into training camp.” ... ... ... RE: INside The Walls of Troy - trojanbrutha - 03-16-2012 10:33 PM Spring practice primer So, Troy begins spring practice Sunday night around 5:30, last I was told. Practices are open to the public, and there are three scrimmages. What to look for at every position, briefly: QB - Corey Robinson is back as a two-year starter, but there are three quarterbacks who have all used their redshirts (Dallas Tidwell, Luke Barnes, K.D. Edenfield), and a JUCO quarterback (Deon Anthony) enrolled in January to compete for the job. Anthony is a dual-threat guy coming off a successful JUCO career. You could say he's like Omar Haugabook, but he's 3 inches taller. Looks like there's a lot on the line for all of these guys. ... ... ... RE: INside The Walls of Troy - trojanbrutha - 03-27-2012 09:02 AM Troy notebook: Trojans' QB, WRs getting close looks 12:29 AM, Mar. 27, 2012 A rejuvenated Troy football team hit the turf in Veterans Memorial Stadium last week for the opening of spring practice. With a week’s worth of work in the books and Troy’s annual T-Day Scrimmage at 2 p.m. Saturday, both the players and coaches are feeling a new sense of energy within in the program. “We’ve had good enthusiasm,” Troy coach Larry Blakeney said. “The emphasis is turning this thing back around and getting back to championship caliber and to a championship level. I expect it to be a physical spring, I expect it to be one in which we revisit everything that's ever won a football game fundamentally.” ... ... ... Tuesday's practice lasted two hours and Troy head coach Larry Blakeney seemed pleased with the team's competition heading into the second week of practice. Also before Tuesday's practice, the Trojans released their depth chart for spring practice. “I thought we had some good competition,” Blakeney said. “We're getting better and we've got a lot of spirit and competition. Everybody seems to be working hard and still got a ways to go, even in the simple drills we do learning how to be a one-on-one football player on both sides to the ball and that carries over into the 11-on-11 (drills).” ... ... ... RE: INside The Walls of Troy - trojanbrutha - 03-28-2012 03:19 PM Robinson welcomes competition at QB ![]() BY DREW CHAMPLIN dchamplin@dothaneagle.com TROY – Rising junior quarterback Corey Robinson now has some quarterbacks ready to challenge him for playing time, and the two-year starter has stepped up to the challenge early on in spring practice. Robinson is being pushed by junior college transfer Deon Anthony and a pair of redshirt freshmen in Dallas Tidwell and Luke Barnes. Tidwell is slightly ahead of Barnes since he has gotten more reps in practice, but all three are competing for the backup spot and even to push Robinson. “Corey is for sure way ahead right now, just from a command presence,”Troy offensive coordinator Kenny Edenfield said. “I have seen good things from Deon and I have seen good things from Dallas Tidwell.” ... ... ... RE: INside The Walls of Troy - trojanbrutha - 04-04-2012 09:39 AM Jacoby Thomas shining in new position So, I went to practice Tuesday. Some observations before I post the story on Jacoby Thomas. ***Troy's vertical passing attack was in midseason form, to me. These wide receivers are really good and pretty dang fast. If they weren't getting wide open, they were making catches with cornerbacks all over them. It's going to be tough to cover these guys man on man. Even with the backups, Bryan Holmes looks like a younger version of Chip Reeves with his ability to run the deep ball. He caught a bomb from Deon Anthony for a score. You'll see this fall that last year was the exception, not the norm, with this Troy offense and you'll see plenty of performances like the 2010 New Orleans Bowl. The big difference is that all of the key players going into this fall are experienced, and that wasn't the case last year. Troy can win the shootouts again. ... ... ... This past Saturday's T-Day scrimmage started off with the fast-paced offense in full effect, as they scored on the first five possessions of the game. The white squad went on to defeat the cardinal 34-31 in what was the first game situation action where coaches got the chance to watch and evaluate how players performed. Like most other spring seasons, this spring has brought position changes. ... ... ... RE: INside The Walls of Troy - trojanbrutha - 04-04-2012 10:19 AM Troy notebook: Football team looks for strong finish 1:02 AM, Apr. 3, 2012 With six practices and the annual T-Day game under its belts, the Troy football team looks to close out strong with two weeks left before the culmination of spring practice. Before traveling to Phenix City for their second annual scrimmage at Garrett-Harrison Stadium on Friday, the Trojans will take to the turf at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Troy for workouts today and Thursday. The Trojans are looking to make corrections from Saturday’s first full-contact scrimmage of the spring before making their way to the Alabama-Georgia line for Friday’s second scrimmage of the spring. “There were some big plays on both sides of the ball and there were some bad things on both sides of the ball,” coach Larry Blakeney said of last Saturday’s T-Day game. “We've got a lot of tape to learn from.” ... ... ... |
