MURFREESBORO – Troy was shutout in the second-straight game and dropped its first series of the season with a 4-0 loss to Middle Tennessee in the rubber match on Sunday at Reese Smith Field.
The 18th-ranked Trojans (26-9, 11-4) were unable to score a run for the second straight meeting with MTSU and are mired in the middle of a string of 18 consecutive scoreless innings.
Troy threatened on multiple occasions, including two-on in both the sixth and eighth innings, could not come through with the timely base hit that had been so plentiful prior to the series with MTSU.

Some pro notes
Troy had its Junior Pro Day earlier today. There's a couple of guys that have a chance to be NFL guys, but most of this class is filled with guys who are good college/Sun Belt football players but don't have the NFL intangibles.
***The top prospect is left tackle James Brown, who will likely be a guard at the next level. Brown, who is about 6-foot-4 and weighed in at 318, is a pretty good athlete and not just for an offensive lineman. Brown, according to strength and conditioning coach Richard Shaughnessy, ran a 5.25 and did 27 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press and did a vertical jump of 29 (that's real good).

TROY – Troy aims to put a disappointing weekend behind it with a pair of mid-week games beginning Tuesday night with in-state foe UAB at 6 pm. The Trojans will also host Alabama A&M on Wednesday.
Troy (26-9) out-scored Middle Tennessee 11-6 in the conference series, but all of 11 of its runs came in the first game as the Trojans were held scoreless and fell 1-0 and 4-0 in the next two match-ups.
On the mound on Tuesday night will be southpaw Shane McCain. The sophomore from Ft. Pierce, Fla. is making a mid-week start for the fourth straight week. He is 1-1 in those previous three starts.
McCain has a 4.26 ERA this season in 31.2 innings of work.

3. Brandon Boudreaux, DE/LB, Troy Trojans
Earlier this week, when the Trojans had their pro-testing day, Boudreux benched 225 "only" 44 times. I say only because Troy strength coach Richard Shaughnessy says Boundreaux has done close to 50 reps before. The really amazing part is that he's only 239 pounds. He's also broad jumped 10-foot-5 and ran a 4.6 in the 40. "He looks like a little Lee Haney," Shaughnessy said.

Basketball recruiting update
So far this spring, Troy has signed three players.
***Breon Dixon, a 6-foot-8 power forward/center from Tift County High School in Tifton, Ga.
***Alan Jones, a 5-foot-11 guard from Southeastern Illinois CC
***Justin Wright, a 6-foot-6 wing forward from Pensacola Junior College.
There could be more in the future. Troy signed two in the fall (guards Emil Jones and Deonta Jethroe from the JUCO ranks)

TROY – Badly needing a win in the series opener with WKU, No. 29 Troy turned to its staff ace and he delivered as the Trojans picked up a 6-3 victory on Friday night at Riddle-Pace Field.
Junior right-hander Tyler Ray showed exactly why he is one of the top pitchers in the Sun Belt Conference and the nation as he battled through some early difficulties to record his second complete game effort of the season – just the second of his career.

After a dominant sweep of Western Kentucky over the weekend, the Trojans are back in college baseball's national polls this week.
The Trojans shot up to number 22 in the Baseball America poll and are ranked 27th in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches' Poll.
Troy (30-10, 14-4) checks in at 30th in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Poll. The only poll of the big four that doesn't include the Trojans this week in the College Baseball Newspaper poll – Troy had a high rank of 22 in the CB poll back on April 5.

BIRMINGHAM – UAB battled back to tie late in the game, then defeated No. 22 Troy 4-3 in the final at-bat on Tuesday at Young Memorial Field.
UAB tied the game at three on a two-run home run by Andrew Manning with one out in the eighth to chase Troy starter Shane McCain. McCain posted the longest outing of his career with seven-plus innings against the Blazers on Tuesday. The sophomore struck out three and walked one en route to a no decision.

It could come today. It likely will come tomorrow. Troy record-setting receiver Jerrel Jernigan is set to get drafted by an NFL team. Maybe I'm bias from watching him play all these years at Troy and a couple of times at Eufaula High School, but I think he's going to do quite well in the league.
