NFL Combine notebook: Troy's Jernigan gets to display his skills

By Jay G. Tate • February 26, 2011

INDIANAPOLIS -- Jerrel Jernigan is having the time of his life.

The Eufaula native, who played wideout at Troy, will begin Combine workouts today without much in the way of fanfare. He's not tall. His track record isn't notable.

Yet he's here. NFL teams care. And that's a victory in itself.

Around the Troy baseball program, Sunday is known as “Championship Sunday” because, more often than not, a weekend series will be decided on that day.

The Troy Trojans made the decision early against Southern Miss at Riddle-Pace Field, using a seven-run third inning to blow the deciding game of the series wide-open in route to a 13-4 victory in front of 1,413 fans.

With the win, the Trojans (6-1) took their second straight weekend series of the year, and did so in dominating fashion against a Southern Miss (5-2) team expected to again compete for a Conference USA title and NCAA Regional berth.

NFL combine report: Wideouts

Jerrel Jernigan/Troy: Jernigan's 40 times were not as fast as scouts had hoped (mid-4.4s), yet his game was as complete as all expected. Jernigan showed a terrific burst during drills, ran sharp routes and displayed consistent hands. His ability to make the deep reception while running full speed was impressive.

Friday Troy links (3-4-11)

March 04, 2011

By Drew Champlin

HERE is the scrimmage story I wrote for today’s paper. It’s about right - I thought Corey Robinson looked good for the most part, as did Jonathan Massaquoi. Chip Reeves stood out and caught some passes, as did Jamel Johnson and B.J. Chitty.
