Yes I have been to Oregon. It is a place I love to visit, but I couldn't live there.

I spent a week around the UC game last year and spent several days on the coast, absolutely beautiful state... like Sub I'm not sure I could live there.

I think that depends on the position he takes. I like to believe, at one time at least, being a part of the UC Basketball program would be considered better or at a minimum the equal of Oregon's Basketball program.

If he takes a comparable position at Oregon that he has at UC, I would say that is statement about our program and not resume building.

He's off to Oregon.

Not sure how much this affects recruiting. According to Rivals he was the main guy on Behanan.

In what might have been a move that’s been in the works for about a week but now DuckTerritory.com has learned that Oregon head coach Dana Altman has hired Tony Stubblefield from the University of Cincinnati to fill the final coaching spot on the men’s basketball program.

Stubblefield comes from UC where he coached the last four years as one of the Bearcats top recruiting coaches and has been an assistant coach for 16 seasons overall.

Before his four year stint at UC Stubblefield served as an assistant at New Mexico State and prior to the 2004-05 season Stubblefield was elevated to interim head coach and fulfilled all aspects of the program of a normal head coach.

Before New Mexico State Stubblefield was lead assistant recruiting coordinator at University of Texas-Arlington for four seasons. Stubblefield started his coaching career at his alma mater of University of Nebraska at Omaha as a student assistant after graduating in 1995.

Stubblefield has worked with guards in his previous stops and has regularly been a school’s top recruiter as he’s been considered a good recruiter.

The addition to the staff should fill out Oregon’s coaching roster unless Altman decides to fill recently hired and departed Michael Lee as Assistant Director of Basketball Operations.

I dont really think it is much of a loss. Who has Stubblefield landed? Anyone any good?

So who do they hire in his place? Obviously a recruiter is needed.

What about the guy who was fired at Indiana? McCleowd? Wasn't he supposed to be some kind of a great recruiter at least?

Did Darren Savino ever find a job after Rutgers?

Maybe he can finally join the coaching staff.

I dont know. I dont see them having the $$ or staus to be able to get an established assistant currently at a good program.

It's probably going to be a risk taking kind of a hire. Like a Strickland type or just take a fluke chance with a guy at a small school.

RE: Coach Stubblefield Leaving UC? - subflea - 06-25-2010 08:29 AM

No, Savino has not landed a job yet.

RE: Coach Stubblefield Leaving UC? - Coopdaddy67 - 06-25-2010 09:22 AM

It wasn't that long ago that I remember folks telling me how improved the big guys would be after working with him. Too bad the head coach couldn't go to Oregon instead, he's the major problem IMO.

If it wasn't for Stubblefield...we would have never landed Lance or Gates.

I hope we get somebody in here that positively affects recruiting.

But then again, if you can't coach them up, what's the point? Oh yeah, it works for Calipari.

Thanks. Had no idea, although landing those two guys hasn't gotten UC anywhere at all.

I thought it was primarily George Jackson, not Stubblefield who works with the big guys.

RE: Coach Stubblefield Leaving UC? - subflea - 06-25-2010 11:20 AM

It is Jackson that coaches the bigs.

Marcus...agree...but I would say, especially in basketball, that you usually have 1-2 lead recruiters who's job it is to "get the player" and beat other schools at the point of sale. The fact Stubblefield led the recruiting of Lance and Gates...easily the 2 highest ranked recruits of the Cronin era...should point out that he has the ability to win recruits who are highly sought after. The fact Gates hasn't been devleoped and that we missed the chance to maximize Lance's impact on the team during his 1 year.....reflect more on the Head Coach and player development strategies than Stubblefield. With Stubblefield gone, the question is can Larry Davis and George Jackson "get" Top 40 talent...unless you believe Cronin will replace TS with some big time experienced (recruiter). We'll see what Cronin does...if he promotes from within or brings in an inexperience person, this smells like someone who's pretty well respected jumping ship before the inevitable happens at the end of next year.

Uh...he didn't coach the post players. 03-shhhh Jackson does. And before him it was Goggin.

Agreed. Who was Stubblefield in charge of developing? I know Jackson had the bigs. Did Stubblefield have a certain position as well or was he mainly a recruiter?

Whoever was responsible for developing the shooting guards has been a miserable failure.

I "think" Jackson has bigs, Larry Davis has guards...and Stubblefield did not have a specificed position...in other words: Head Recruiter.

This ain't football. The head coach does his share of visiting and making phone calls. Lets not build a statue for tony just yet. Mick had his hand all in the gate and lance recruitment You know that, or at least you should. They come for the head coach.

It sounds like you think tony outworked all the other coaches to bring in lance. And to that I say03-lmfao

Dude, we have larry davis and some old high school coach, how hard can it be to be the best recruiter on the team? really.

I think goggins gets his seat back. And to that I say03-hissyfit
