Global warming in Chicago - DrTorch - 06-15-2009 12:48 PM

Quote:average temperature at O'Hare International Airport through Friday has been only 59.5 degrees: nearly 7 degrees below normal and the coldest since records there began 50 years ago.

Confirms what I've been observing casually. The entire continent has been 5-10 degrees below average for this spring.

Heretic! Burn him, he's a witch!

So my question is, why can we not use these 6 months of data to back-up claims that perhaps GW is not fully understood, vs the alarmist's ability to use one 97 degree day in May to claim GW is here to stay?

I think the answer to your question is what do you mean by "we"?

It's abundantly clear and demonstrable that the current models have failed to predict the ongoing meterological activity, and more importantly, the worst-case negative feedback loops aren't happening.

"We," meaning rational, fact-based people, do want it stated that climate change is not understood.

"We," meaning alarmist, extremist, profiteering oppressionists, don't want that to become widely accepted.

RE: Global warming in Chicago - RobertN - 06-15-2009 01:55 PM

Maybe you guys should read about GW before commenting on it?

Btw, Tom Skilling's brother is in jail in connection with Enron.

In 10 years global warming will be a thing of the past. There will be a new gimmick by the "scientists" that they will be studying... it may be called "global cooling round 2".

Why would you presume that we haven't? I'm willing to wager I know more than you about atmospheric physics and chemistry.

Quote:Btw, Tom Skilling's brother is in jail in connection with Enron.

So you're suggesting that he's artificially keeping Chicago temperatures cold?

well stated.

I think the "Bloody Mary" mixed drink is named after Queen Mary who did some bloody things to the protestants(err heretics to her) she opposed in her short reign.

Perhaps we should come up with a nex mixed drink to name after the Global Warming

I didn't want let this get lost in the shuffle. You've got to love the headline.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090615/ap_on_sc/lt_argentina_glacier_8

Anyway, we have glaciers in Argentina and the Himalayas growing, N. America setting record temperature lows.

Hmm.

Jeffery is in Jail, hope he dies there. The only thing his brother Tom is guilty of is being too happy about the wind and cold of Chicago.

It has been a BRUTAL spring early summer. Gray 50-65.... almost every day .... cold wet .... The weather feels like it finally breaking to the good side. Today 80 and sunny.......

Your point?

Because what I keep hearing is that w/ Global Warming we're going to have droughts, intense hurricanes and hotter temperatures. Sure sounds like weather to me.

Sorry, but you're wrong. Weather encompasses essentially whats happening "today" outside your door (or this season, what have you). Climate is weather as observed over very long periods of time, on a global scale.

Just because Chicago is having a cool spring in 2009 dosent mean squat when youre talking about climate..it is what it is. Thats like declaring if GM's stock were to go up $3 today, that the recession is over. You need to put that data it into a far larger context.

Yeah, you idiots that believe in that bull**** move the goal posts to better fit your argument....the argument only you think you have.

Thanks for filling me on a school I will prohibit my kids from attending.

You're obviously not interested in having any sort of intelligent debate without resorting to childish name calling, so I really not interested in pursuing this discussion further.

I'm thinking you started it first. I understand, to a liberal, being "open-minded" means agreeing with them to the "T".
