Anyone care to rank these 4?

1. Ebelle 6'8 295 he is a beast and has a scholarship offer form Illinois and EMU
2.Madison 6'4 300 From Louisiana a very good high school football state. Offers from Arizona, Virigina, Memphis, and Louisiana Tech.
3. McKee 6'7 295 Has the size, but is raw with skills. Offers from UConn, EMU, and Ohio St. is now looking at him.
4. Loos 6'5 270 A little undersized. Offers from Wyoming, WMU, and WKU.

One final note Ebelle, Madison, and McKee are bigger or as big as our 2 starting tackles (Olsen and Tense) Kiel is bigger than all of those recruits. I know size does not mean everything but it would be great if we could get 2 of the 4.

Size is okay but skills like footwork are better. Some big guys are a bust unless you can look past size..remember Tony Mandarich.

Mandarich took roids in college and was a bust in the NFL partly cause he had to stop taking them due to testing, didn't help he was drafted ahead of barry sanders, deion sanders among other hall of famers. In college he was a great player but due to performance enhancing drugs, which obviously negates his accomplisments. Natural size is better then footwork.

EDIT: From Edgytim

Isn't it shady to offer a kid after he has verballed elsewhere?

Well absolutely everybody does it, so not really. Illinois and NIU are going to cross paths a lot more on the recruiting trail this year since NIU is doing pretty well, Illinois is doing very poorly, and Illinois is desperate.

RE: 2010 Football Recruiting Thread/VERBAL LIST - NIU05 - 01-05-2010 06:41 PM

Fellas this is the what came first the chicken and egg argument. THis is also what makes recruiting an ART. As a coach you have to pick a player based on what your system requires him to do or the best combo of the skills. I prefer ATHLETIC lineman first. That means good footwork and quickness. I prefer lineman that have wrestled or play BB first then those who are just football. Prefer wrestlers to play inside and BBallers @ Tackle. Another indication is those players who throw the shot over 50 feet and the disc over 150' feet. That is a good sign of athletic ability. The -5- star OLINEMAN who do not play in college and I can name a few is because they do not have the feet. It is not because they are not tough or don't hit the weights, it is their inability to move. YOU MUST BE ABLE TO MOVE.

I prefer the Doug Free types the 6'6, 6'7 TE type who weighs in @ 240-260 who can move and has the FRAME. You can put 60 -75 lbs on him in 2-3 years with a great weight room program, that is my type of tackle prospect. IMO the -2- tackles from Chicago don't move well enough.

I liked the -2- Ohio OL recruits that were offered Dominic Flewellyn & Jake Schwertner. Flewelln 275lbs avgs 16pts & 11 rebounds. Ryan Brown from St Charles 6'6 265 fits the profile, I have not seen him play but his brother who played @ UCf and NE Pats was this type athlete. Hoping we gave Brown a hard look.

So is Kill basically saying screw you to Spann, Me'co, Bell etc? Seems like we have plenty of RB's already

RE: 2010 Football Recruiting Thread/VERBAL LIST - armour248 - 01-05-2010 09:15 PM

Hopkings looks unreal in that youtube video. How does he not have more offers than that?

You can never have too many playmakers. Not a lot on this team. Don't forget Kirkland. I expect him to be in the rotation next season. I wish we had this problem at Oline, TE, WR.

Yeah I have no problem with adding this guy to the RB position but I'd rather recruit a WR, OL, or TE instead.

RE: 2010 Football Recruiting Thread/VERBAL LIST - armour248 - 01-05-2010 09:23 PM

Hey Rabid, where did you see that we offered him?

RE: 2010 Football Recruiting Thread/VERBAL LIST - goniu1523 - 01-05-2010 09:49 PM

It doesn't sound like he'll sign with us. He has not visited us. But I'll be looking forward to what he does in D 1.

RE: 2010 Football Recruiting Thread/VERBAL LIST - goniu1523 - 01-05-2010 10:33 PM

Tyler Loos is set to visit michigan st. next weekend. It doesn't sound good for us to get him, if they offer him.

The team is not overwhelmingly deep at RB (although Antoine Kirkland, who redshirted this year, supposedly has a lot of ability), but Anderson is gone, Crider really isn't a lot more than a special teams guy, and who knows if the the Me'co Brown "family issues" aren't something that could lead to him transferring?

An interesting offer for Osei1/6/2010 EdgyTim.com
Mt. Prospect (Ill.) Prospect three star ranked dual threat quarterback prospect Miles Osei (6-foot-1, 185 pounds) decided to end his recruiting process in mid December and was all set to play of the Northern Illinois University Huskies starting next fall. However, with the recent rash of college coaching changes across the country comes new looks and offers, and Osei has picked up an interesting recent scholarship offer from the Big Ten conference.

It also lists his interest as "Medium" as compared to "none" for the other offers. Say it isn't so.

I hope we just beat the heck out of U of I when we play them next year.

RE: 2010 Football Recruiting Thread/VERBAL LIST - armour248 - 01-06-2010 11:17 AM

I will be extremely pissed off if we lose Osei to Illinois...I hope he wants to play QB and potentially get extensive playing time because that's the best we have to offer now.

RE: 2010 Football Recruiting Thread/VERBAL LIST - NIUSAE - 01-06-2010 11:45 AM

Notice that it doesn't quite say that it is a better offer. I think ET knows that with Whitmer and Scheelhause(sp) from Kansas City who was a pretty big get for them, that Osei is a third wheel in this situation.

RE: 2010 Football Recruiting Thread/VERBAL LIST - scottiep12 - 01-06-2010 12:01 PM

Can't blame kids who take a look at late BCS offers, you just hope they make informed decisions. If Miles comes here he has a chance to be a stud. There should be NOTHING intriguing about the Illinois offer in this case. Somebody get Eddie Adamski on the phone to have a talk with Miles.

Also, any updates on Daron Brown? I'm REALLY surprised he hasn't verballed by now...
