Quote:At East, tight end/defensive lineman Jess Striedl is getting used to the drive to DeKalb. He has been a guest of Northern Illinois twice this season, attending the Huskies’ wins against both Western Illinois and Western Michigan.

“It’s fun to go watch the games up there,” said Striedl, who also is receiving attention from Drake. “It’s a good atmosphere and it’s close to home.”

While he smiled at the idea of being recruited to play both ways, Striedl said NIU would be interested in him offensively because he has a longer high school history there.

Snoopy are you sure we looking/recruiting him? He is NOT listed on Rivals or Scout. 05-stirthepot

Im interested in that OT from St Charles...Ryan Brown 6'6' 250 apparently a late bloomer like his older brother who played @ UCF and now is in the NFL. Has anyone seen the St Charles teams play?

This guy isn't even on scout from what I can tell. I don't see how he is a 3 star lineman. Those are the caliber of athletes WMU and CMU are getting again we should be at least matching if not exceeding them.

No we really shouldn't...people have to realize that recruiting is a subjective process and involves a lot more than proximity of the school to the recruit and arguably the status/perception of the school. What one recruit may use as a weight does not necessarily mean the next will use in deciding where to go. Also, decisions are not all that limited i.e. what does the town itself have to offer, what about the academics, does a school have a specific program a recruit is interested in, how well does the recruit think they'd fit into the specific program, early playing time??? etc... Just b/c a recruit is in our back yard does not automatically make him ours. Or likewise just b/c another MAC school recruits 3 stars does not automatically quailfy us to recruit an equal number if not more of kids at that same skill level. Just some food for thought next time you see kent state pull out a 4 star commitment and all we have are 2 star commitments.

And look at our last 10 recruiting classes. Before signing day how many of them had 100% of our guys who had a rivals/scout profile? None of em. They had to be added after signing day.

I don't care for the number of "stars" being a rating - all I care about is if we get the guys who are the top of our list, not someone else's.

OL Alex Hill out of Slidell, LA

http://northernillinois.scout.com/a.z?s=352&p=8&c=1&nid=4215833

Quote:Hill now favors Tennessee solidly over Auburn, New Mexico, Duke and Northern Illinois. Of those, only New Mexico and Northern Illinois have offered. ...

How can you favor a school that hasn't even offered you a scholarship?

... He is from a BIG TIME program Slidell down there. When Novak had those good teams and they would play the BCS schools he tell the guys...... Most of you guys wanted to be on the other sideline today, but you are not. Go out and Prove they made a mistake. Its no surprise a kids dreams would be to play in the SEC and he would favor them, but if and when reality sets in we will have our shot.

Does anyone think we are going to beat out Tenn/Auburn for a Southern kis who is iffered by them? Seriously, do you?

NO.

But while we waste time, money and energy recruiting kids like this, we are losing out on the ones that are signing with other MAC teams. When He commits to another team, we will be left with nothing then we will look around and see that WMU, CMU and other MAC schools have more verbals from the Chicagoland than NIU has. We might not have offered any of the verbals from WMU or CMU but they got verbals from the guys they wanted. We are losing out.

RE: 2010 Football Recruiting Thread/Verbal List - NIU05 - 10-28-2009 09:59 AM

Lets wait until Feb 4 to decide if we losing to CMU/WMU.... If SEC does not offer we have an opportunity with this player.

Most of the guys ANY school recruits they LOSE even USC<NOTRE DAME, LSU. It is like a good salesman, most of the people he speaks with do not sign with him, but the ones that do sign with him, he makes bank.

That is an impressive list of offers. kid is 6'3" with a 40 inch vertical. Wow could he be a red zone threat.

Can somebody explain the LA connection to me again? Just recruiting ties from Kill's staff when they were at SIU?

Yes.... SIU is really in the "South". That region is not called the "Top of the South" for nothing. SIU has a long history of going to New Orleans & Memphis for players.

Not sure why we have to go all the way to LA to find a decent OL but ok. Hopefully the other MAC teams didn't already take the ones we wanted from Wisc, Minn, Iowa, Ill, and Indiana.

He visited during Homecoming weekend and still hasn't made a decision. Now that he has seen how much we (don't) throw the ball he is probably going to Tulsa where all they do is throw it.

Not necessarily...I'm sure he's aware the situation is that there is too much talent lacking to throw more than there is to run. If anything, being a WR I'd look at that as a +. All the more reason for me to step in and get some early playing time if I'm a solid WR recruit. Plus, who knows what tulsa's depth chart looks like @ WR, maybe they're stacked.

I'm not to sure how you guys feel, but after Boubacar Cissoko just got kicked off the Michigan team, I think I would take a chance. Do you think Kill would look into giving the kid a 2nd shot? He was a 4 star recruit and all american out of high school in 2008 so he still has a few years left.

Wow! I didn't know he got kicked off the team. I hope NIU will go after him, we need DB's. However, he's from Georgia and might go to a smaller school down there or possibly EMU because Ron English was the DC for Michigan when he was recruited.

Cissoko is from Detroit, not Georgia. He went to Cass Tech, which usually spits out some good players.

And I hope NIU lets him go elsewhere; the kid is a pain in the neck.

Does not appear to be the quality student-athlete that we want representing NIU. He's more in the mold of a Chase Meija.
