1 Star only means that Scout has not reviewed tape of his play.

With the juco guys we have playing that position this year he would be a good candidate to redshirt next year and starting the following year along with the db's Ware and Davis. He would be a nice get.

Don't forget we also have a verbal out of Jeff Garrett. CB.

Jackson is a kid I like though, he's a bigger corner. I think with our defensive scheme the corners do more zone coverage and coming up vs. the run than they would in a more man oriented zone.

The secret is starting to come out perhaps. I'd like to close the deal on him as soon as we can.

If that win doesn't help recruiting, I'm not sure what will.

Yea there is a few players out there with some offers from us as well as Indiana and Purdue....this should really help

Agreed.

And where is Danny Hope's main recruiting area? FLORIDA.

Maybe TE De'Ron Flood (IL), QB Sean Robinson (IL) & DB E.J. Johnson (FL) will have second thoughts about turning down their NIU offers to commit Purdue.

Maybe, but that's probably wishful thinking. Recruiting isn't that simple, and I don't remember the last time I saw a kid actually change his mind due to the result of one game. There's just so much more to recruiting a kid than that. And those kids all had offers from other schools (not just NIU) that are having plenty of success this year.

It can't hurt, but I doubt it will make any kid change his mind. I would think that the "help" it brings would more likely be with kids next year, since they aren't nearly as far into the process as the 2010 guys are.

After Toledo blew out Colorado, one of their bigger recruits changed his verbal to soft and said he would start setting up visits because he didn't see a direction the team was going after a loss like that. There was an article couldn't find it, but here is his profile.

Right, but he didn't state he was going to be looking at Toledo, and the coach at Colorado may be on his way to getting fired. He basically says that in the article and talks about "if things go wrong" needing a backup plan to Colorado.

My point was more that Team A beating Team B doesn't usually lead to a kid switching from one to the other when everything else (i.e., the coaching staff) is stable. I don't recall it happening, although I'm sure it has; it's just not common. And, at least in Robinson's case, I don't think NIU was even in his final 8-10 schools. He may not end up at Purdue, but I don't see him switching to NIU.

I think a win like that tends to help more down the road, before kids have made decisions or have narrowed lists. It's a good selling point, to be sure, one that I think may pay dividends in 2011 and help persuade kids who haven't decided yet in 2010.

RE: 2010 Football Recruiting Thread/Verbal List - RitzHuskie - 09-21-2009 09:25 AM

Anyone know if any of our recruits from Indiana were at the Purdue game, i.e. Jeffery Garrett? Turned out to be a nice showcase for them.

RE: 2010 Football Recruiting Thread/Verbal List - klake87 - 09-21-2009 09:50 AM

What I am hoping for from the Purdue victory is that we win the head to head battles we have with other mid majors. If a player is deciding between NIU and La Tech, they may consider NIU more serious. We will never win the battles consistantly for players that are being recruited by BCS schools.

I am hoping that players like Hellams and Garrett reject late interest from the Indiana's, Purdue's, Illinois's of the world and stick with NIU because they have a solid foundation.

Could not have said it better.

It is against NCAA rules to have recruits as guests @ away games. If they attended the game w/ a comp ticket it was from Purdue.

I disagree a victory like we had Saturday does wonders for the uncommitted players as far as getting us respect and on their list. It would be good if we could get him to visit on Oct. 3 with the rest of our recruits. Any word on other visits for that game?

If Lemming starts talking him up as a top 100 player, BCS teams will start to take a serious look at him.
