OT: There is some great fishing in CNY - PusherT - 10-25-2008 10:33 AM

Since SU football is bad again I have been finding myself fishing more this fall. Up north of Syracuse the Chinook and Coho Salmon are spawining in the rivers up north from lake Ontario. [Image: Chinook_Salmon.jpg] I have recently caught a 35 pound female.

In the lakes around Syracuse the Walleye are just now biting I cought a 5 pound female using a grub jig. The weather has been so nice making the fishing even better. So tell me about the fishing in your neck of the woods? Is there any good fishing in Kentucky/Ohio?

Nice catch, dude. That is an impressive fish. 04-cheers

You are luck to have those Walleye! I think Walleye and Yellow Perch are about the best eating fish around. We do not a have much of them in Kentucky, however.

Yeah, I go to Salmon River in Palaski every fall been fishing up there since I was a little boy with my father and brothers. I like to fish in Sportsman hole alittle futher up the river. The weather has been really great and the water is low this season. I have seen tons of Steelhead,Coho and some giant Brown Trout. Chinnook is still the biggest you can catch there and they give you one hell of a fight when you hook them on the river "Fish On". Mark if you in Syracuse next fall maybe we can meet up and do alittle fishing. Same offer for our UofL friends coming to Syracuse this weekend04-rock

Brook Trout fishing in the West Virginia wilderness areas can't be beat but I'm sure every BE school has its spots. Love the salmon runs on the Great Lakes.

That fishing Hunter Cantwell does is crazy...stomp around in muddy rivers feeling around for 40lb Catfish and pulling them out with your hands...yikes

I usually fish for bass, stripers, and puppy drum. Aint got much salmon and walleye around Eastern North Cakalaka. It's been off and on all season. Ran into a school of stripers in early spring - that was a blast. I was throwing a spoon. I was hooking one on every other cast. That's the kind of day that keeps you addicted.

TM - you are right. That catfish guy is freaking crazy.

Stripers are fun to fish...they are also excellent eating. Eastern NC looks like a great fishing area...both Freshwater and Saltwater

Is Albemarle and Pamlico Sounds loaded with fish? I assume it is fairly shallow? flounder, any redfish?

I usually fish around the Pamlico. Although I usually stick to the rivers and the mouth of the Trent/Neuse (New Bern). Overall, pretty good fishing.

I don't have much experience fishing around the Albemarle. I did catch a very large flounder outta there one time though. It was very tasty!

My in-laws live in Eastern PA, so I want to try some fly fishing up there sometime. That has always looked fun to me. Never tried it though.
