Auto Body Shop Advice - SpiderMan79x - 08-03-2008 10:24 AM
Does anyone know a really good auto body shop? I have a 2006 Mustang GT, and on my way back form Mt. Olive Alabama yesterday went through a bunch of wicked severe thunderstroms. My poor car got pelted with some golfball to baseball sized hail and have about 12 hail damage dents on the hood roof and trunk. I stopped under the first bridge I got to, but it took 2 minutes and by then the damage was done.
Any solid advice on who does quality work or experiences with this type of thing would be GREATLY APPRECIATED. Thanks in advance.

You don't need a body shop depending on the severity of the damage. What you need to do is go to Kroger, get some dry ice, and place it on the dent for about 30 seconds. It's actually cold enough to shrink the metal back into place. Worked great on my 01 GT.

They will come to you, and generally will give you a cost to do the whole car as opposed to a body shop that will want to charge you by the panel as they have paint times and all to take into account. I can't recommend any as I don't live there, but I have fixed upwards of a thousand cars in my career (had them done, not myself). If the paint isn't chipped, a solid paintless dent repair vendor is the way to go.

There is a Dent Genie on Stage Road/Hwy 64 near Wolfchase. It's right next to Xtreme auto accessories, between Summer and Germantown Pkwy.
They start out at a minimum of $70 per dent.
It's at least worth giving it a shot. It won't hurt your paint, and it definitely worked on the dents I had on my roof.

I'll try this out today on an old firebird I bought a few months back. Hail dents on the hood and the hoods now cost $600 to replace. I'll give the dry ice method a shot and let everyone know how it does.

It worked for me. My dents were very deep though.
I tried using liquid C02 at first, but after realizing that air duster is no longer made of C02, discovered that the ingredient in the new cans isn't cold enough to pop the metal. It will make ice but not fix the metal.
It needs to be around -200 degrees, which I guess dry ice is, because it worked for me. I don't know if it would work with anything really deep though. Still worth a shot over paying hundreds of bucks.
Good luck with your resto. I restored a 66 mustang a few years back and loved doing it. Took a long time as I did it bit by bit, but the finished product was well worth it.
