The Grizzlies are officially the Cleveland Indians from the movie "Major League" - Felonious - 06-26-2008 11:01 PM

... with the exception of lacking any loyal fans for the ownership to screw.

Seriously, when I read in the CA that Heisley wanted to have the final say on picks tonight, I knew what we were in for.

I don't care about the Grizzlies at all, but until today I harbored the hope (I mean delusion) that I could one day.

How many new season ticket holders is Kevin Love going to bring in? A: None. At least Eric Gordon would have brought some offensive firepower and superstar potential. Move Miller, try to get a big, and imagine a young gun lineup of Conley, Gordon, and Gay. Instead we go for another tweener big man who will start for us but would ultimately be a bench player anywhere else. Marc Gasol has more starpower than Love.

And how could they pass on CDR for a guy who has a 50+% chance of amounting to nothing whatsoever?

Draft Grade: F

As if all that weren't bad enough, I was almost sure Detroit was going to take CDR when they traded with Seattle for the 32 pick, but it wasn't mean to be. In any case, he's definitely going to make the Nets' roster, make some noise in the league (especially now that Jefferson is out of NJ), and make a killing on his second contract.

Despite these injustices, I am happy for Derrick and Joey. They are both in great situations, I think.

Good luck to all our guys. I'm sure we'll be hearing a lot from them next year.

Just don't watch the third installment of this series.

The first one was great, but even the second was too much for me. I wonder how bad a movie about the Grizzlies' ownership would be. What actor is villainous enough to play Heisley?

Brian Dennehy would make a good Heisley

Channel 3's Mike Mathews would make a great Heisley.

I've got to go ahead and tentatively retract my rant. I'll wait until all the moves are made before passing judgment from now on.

New Draft Grade: ??

The problem is that the Griz should have been sold to local ownership. Heisley doesn't like some of them and kept the price out of reach. Now the segment of the population that can afford NBA hoops is pissed and may not come back. Add the terrible economy squeezing people and the forecast calls for pain for this team. Wallace made some moves that other teams would not do with West here and that is a start. My feeling is that no matter what happens is that they will still be a 25 to 30 win team in the west until they secure better ownership.

PS...I am glad that no Tigers are part of this.
