The key stretch of the season will begin with Colorado State thru Utah on the schedule, there are some very tough games early and SDSU could come out of the gate at 1-3, these conf games will be key winning a couple of em could be the difference between 6-5/7-4 or 4-7/5-6.

I think the key is sooner than that, like the ooc schedule. If they come out of that 3-1, the sky's the limit. If 2-2 then I fully agree with what you've written. I won't even surmise what the repercussion will be if it's 1-3. The expectation and pressure for Craft to win is unbelieveable! Although he may thrive for this type of challenge, I would not want to be in his shoes.

I feel too much may be expected of this team this year. There are still many questions to be answered. If O'Connell wins the qb job how much patience should we have as he progresses? What effect, if any, will the dismissal of the four players have? Are the receivers going to be better this year? How long will it take for the o-line to come together? How healthy will Hamilton be, really? Which recruits will qualify and who will be the walkons this fall who'll contribute? Kicking game? I think 7-4 is doable but we may still be one year away from great things. 03-banghead

Other than the 4 guys who got kicked off the team, the other questions could pretty much apply to any team. I don't think the four players lost will have an affect on the team. Players talk amongst each other and they probably saw it coming before the coach axed them.

The diehard fans who usually attend the fall practices should have a good feel for how the team looks as opposed to the previous year(s). I hope they report what they see although I generally only accept the gist of what they say.

I suspect the questions posed could apply to any team in varying degrees. But we're talking specifically about the progress of our aztecs. McCutcheon will be the player that's missed, however, history shows that we lose some over the summer and there's always a walkon or two that make the team in the Fall.
I'll go out on a limb and say O'Connell wins the starting qb job. I'm still concerned about Hamilton although we're in pretty good shape at rb. But Hamilton is a difference maker. Now tight end becomes a concern.
Overall I feel it'll be easier to talk about this team than this year and I'm anticpating a minimum 7-4 yr this yr.

With that OOC schedule I would'nt expect more than 2-2 and That Nevada game is huge, a loss there will dig an early hole, but thats a winnable game, the UCLA and MICH games will be ugly.
