Surprised to see WVU, with its fairly large stadium, no higher on the list than it is. RE: This years Revenues though 6/30/2007 - DFW HOYA - 12-27-2007 10:49 AM Two notes about these numbers: 1. They are not football-specific (e.g. see Duke). Georgetown would have ranked 73rd on this list and I can guarantee that football revenues aren't much of that total. 2. Each school counts the numbers slightly differently--some include TV money in this figure, some don't; some include annual booster giving, some don't. Some just match expenses and call it even. RE: This years Revenues though 6/30/2007 - Cubanbull - 12-27-2007 11:16 AM Agree with Hoya Each school accounts for it differently, some schools would use donations for projects as actual revenue even if you know that might be a one time deal. So it gives you an idea but hard to compare unless they establish strict rules that all schools would follow RE: This years Revenues though 6/30/2007 - 3601 - 12-27-2007 11:28 AM Where did these figures come from? Do the figures include BCS money? RE: This years Revenues though 6/30/2007 - CatsClaw - 12-27-2007 05:18 PM The new Big East television contract will help revenue significantly. It should boost Cincinnati's revenue to around 40 million. Ohio State fans are saying that Cincinnati's revenue is 20 million and WVU is 35 million. WTF? Adding stronger bowl affiliations will also help our revenue! RE: This years Revenues though 6/30/2007 - CatsClaw - 12-27-2007 05:20 PM 3601 Wrote:Where did these figures come from? Do the figures include BCS money? I'm not sure, I'm pretty sure it does. Our then AD-Bob Goin predicted in 2003 that by this time our revenue would be at 35 million, and he was on the freaking money! It should bump into the 40 millions over the next few years, especially if UC goes to a stronger bowl and UC basketball gets off the mat. Also keep in mind, this isn't counting WVU's BCS money and Cincinnati and USF's huge spike in attendance. Adding stronger bowl affiliations will also help our revenue! Nah, the TV contracts won't make that BIG of a difference, just a little under a million more. What will help both Cincinnati and USF is the increase in attendance. I believe a college's annual athletics donations through booster clubs and such and tickets sold are still the biggest revenue producers for campuses. You're right though, donations and boosters and attendance are the key. Some big time boosters and doners have stepped up this year for Cincinnati, and a lot of fans are donating money to the University now so we're seeing first hand what a difference that makes! Adding stronger bowl affiliations will also help our revenue! I was only thinking about the football part of the contract. But that doesn't start til next year, so we won't see it until the 2008-09 revenues are reported. The bb contract starts this year and it will increase revenues also by about a million. Another thing that will help the 2008-09 revenue for the newbies is that you will all be getting full conference shares that year. It would seem so, if we're really looking for exact figures, getting down to the brass tax. I have a feeling that UL is adding in everything they possibly can. Not saying they're 'cooking the books' but are counting everything. Fball attendance has been very good and bball has to account for a goodly share as well. Probably the case with UCONN as well, being right up there with UL amongst BE schools. Part of it is a need to create a perception, which is still so important in college athletics--programs puffing themselves up for a variety of reasons. Some of which are how the program is viewed nationally, and by other programs, trying to earn respect and attract certain opponents perhaps. Also, from an in-state perspective, UL is only about 6 mil. behind their dreaded rival uk. UL wants stadium expansion and a new bball arena, which will partly be funded by bond sales, I believe. In a state dominated to a great extent by big blue sympathizers, UL needs to demonstrate their ability to generate revenue. The bonds must be approved by the state, so they have to show it is absolutely essential to increase their earning potential. Of course, uk legislators would want to block anything that benefits UL anyway, just out of spite :muttering: |
