Interesting … CUSA ranked lower than Southern and CAA league, in football.

It has been four years now. Do MWC and WAC belong in BCS club?

RE: Sagarin Conference Rankings Week 13 - Cubanbull - 11-25-2007 10:40 AM

There is still a gap between them but th WAC has been the nonBCS league that has benefitted the most from the new BCS rules and extra bowl game.
This could be the WAC's second year in a row witha BCS bowl bid.

I have quit giving the sagarin for fb any credence at all.. it is just stupid..

first off to rate any 1aa over a 1a makes no sense.. they only play 2 or 3 1a opponants per year...

Putting the Mac.. a 13 school league at #10 when they have 3 schools with winning records.. 1 at 8-4 and 2 at 7-5 and 2 more at 6-6.. which leaves 8 (61%) with losing records....

while CUSA 12 schools.. have 6 with winning records.. 2 at 9-3.. 1 at 8-4.. and 3 at 7-5... while only 6 have losing records is just plain dumb..

Granted the Mac played alot of big 10 teams while cusa played BE and Acc.. maybe thats the diff.. the big 10 is thought of more highly then the ACC and BE..

That is a tough call. Overall the MWC appears to be deeper but the WAC has had cream rise to the top. I think it would be in the best interest of all non-BCS conferences to leave it status quo if they get rid of the top 12 rule if they add a 6th conference. (I'd like to see them move it to top 14).

With a few top teams moving from the WAC then MWC might be ready for prime time even if they the top 12 rule.

RE: Sagarin Conference Rankings Week 13 - Krocker Krapp - 11-25-2007 01:10 PM

The biggest difference between the MWC and the WAC seems to be that the MWC teams beat up on each other over the course of a season while the top of the WAC is enormously better than the bottom of the WAC. Based on how the WAC is poised to get a team into the BCS for the second straight year, it might not make sense for anyone to leave for the MWC, doing so does not guarantee full BCS status anyway. If the WAC could somehow get rid of Louisiana Tech, their geographical layout would improve immensely, and that could help the level of play take off throughout the league.

If you don't like the results, just ignore 'em.

Do you know that the money that a non-bcs auto-qualifier gets from a BCS game gets split between all the non-bcs programs. I think the MWC was the one that pushed this. It is benefiting UCF for sure...

The top team in the MWC always ends up losing 1 or 2 ooc games and then goes thru their MWC schedule undefeated. BYU did it last year and this year. The year before that TCU did it. Utah was the only MWC team that actually went undefeated in ooc and in conference. Their top teams are usually good enough to run thru the conference but lose to average bcs ooc opponents.
Last year Boise had some really good ooc bcs wins on their way to an undefeated season. That team was as real as it gets. The only thing that really seperates the MWC from the WAC is the bottom teams. The MWC bottom teams are usually a little better than the WAC bottom teams.

I guess I should have clarified that the teams in the middle of the MWC beat up on each other in conference play. You are right that their champion and runner-up often lose to mediocre BCS league opponents before beginning MWC play. The WAC, as you noted with Boise State last year, often goes out and gets decent BCS wins, then dominates their own league as well. It is still true that the MWC is normally more balanced, in the middle, while the WAC is usually very top heavy.

So now you're blaming the ACC and the Big East for C-USA being ranked 13th in the Sagarins? Convenient. Also convenient is that the same people who used ratings like this a few years ago to justify that the Big East will never be among the big boys are now complaining about it. Here's a good idea, instead of complaining about the Sagarin and blaming the ACC and Big East for C-USA woes, how about going out and winning games? C-USA was consistently 7th or 8th when Louisville, TCU and Cincinnati were in the conference so blaming the Big East and ACC is a copout.

RE: Sagarin Conference Rankings Week 13 - LaRue777 - 11-25-2007 02:35 PM

So are we thinking that the Mountain West should be added? I believe that they may be one or two good teams away. I see the point that raiding the WAC might not be in anyone's best interest.

It really doesn't matter to me what they do. If they add a 7th conference and keep the top 12 rule I have no problem with it. 2-3 at-large is enough for me.

RE: Sagarin Conference Rankings Week 13 - CatsClaw - 11-25-2007 02:56 PM

Really, the MWC right now is no different then the old C-USA conference. So you would have to think, did the old C-USA conference deserve to have an autobid? The MWC can talk about depth, but great conferences find a way to have multiple Top 25 teams every year, with the occasional down year. To my knowledge the MWC has not had a season where 2 or more teams have finished in the Top 25 since the change in the BCS, save for possibly last year.

No... It was a smart elick coment.. the ACC and BE are rated over the big 10.. some say the Mac gets its ratings because of the tougher schedule.. which I might even buy if the 1aa's were not below all the 1as.. I don't pretend to understand how sagarin works... only that it make no sense no matter how u try to look at it. As for going out and winning games.. the top 2 in cusa are 9-3..I think we are winning games.. more than any in the higher ranked mac.
