WVU is sitting pretty right now. - Bull Daly - 11-03-2007 11:08 PM

If we can get WVU in the title game that would be huge for the BIG EAST. BC and Ariz St loses to help WVU move up. It is good that UCONN keeps winning because that game against WVU could help push the Moutaineers to the title game if they can beat UCONN. USF is out of it, but I am still going to cheer for the BIG EAST to get to the title game. Good luck WVU!!!!

unfortunately they'll never leapfrog lsu and oregon, lsu once again escaped death today and have a cake schedule the rest of the way through. oregon is pretty much sitting pretty as well. if ohio st loses to michigan they might still get the nod. i don't think it's the conference strength so much as their ooc keeping them out, if they win out beating uconn would be their only top 15 victory for the year.

Kansas is going to jump WVU for the #5 spot. Kansas is undefeated and just destroyed Nebraska.

WVU title chances look bleak

-The Big 12 really has 3 teams that will give West virginia trouble in the BCS polls.

-Oregon will likely win out too (Oregon State,UCLA,Arizona)

RE: WVU is sitting pretty right now. - LaRue777 - 11-04-2007 09:05 AM

It is going to be tough. You have the feeling that any 1 loss team from the Big 12 would be ahead of WVU in the BCS, even Missouri. Ohio State, LSU and Oregon all would have to lose and I wonder if voters would still keep OSU ahead of WVU.

WVU is treading water in the polls. Teams in front of them lose but someone from behind moves ahead of them. This week it will probably be Kansas. Is beating a belly up Nebraska really a bigger deal then beating Rutgers?

I doesn't really matter at this point with their tough stretch coming up. IF they ran the table they would have a tremendous season.

RE: WVU is sitting pretty right now. - CatsClaw1 - 11-04-2007 10:30 AM

West Virginia should jump to 5th, though watch out for Kansas in this week's poll. If WVU can get to 5th in this poll then they could be in better shape. WVU would also need Cincinnati to beat Connecticut at home this week. That way West Virginia would play two Top 25 teams to finish the season (UC, UConn).

Good news for WVU is that they don't have to worry about possibly losing a Conf Champ Game like in the Big 12 & SEC (probable's Kansas vs OU, LSU vs someone?).

Bad news for WVU...is that they don't get a chance at an extra game to play and beat a RANKED team in a conf championship game, like KU, OU, & LSU...which helps earn major extra brownie points in both computer and human polls.

As long as WVU and UCONN continue to win...Big East should get 2 teams in BCS Bowls.

RE: WVU is sitting pretty right now. - Bull Daly - 11-04-2007 12:16 PM

Alot can still happen from here on out with those top teams. LSU could lose in the SEC title game while Ohio St may lose a game or so still. It has been a crazy year, so I wouldnt rule WVU out especially since a lot people would not mind watching Slaton and White in the title game. I was never convinced that the people wanted to see BC, USF, or even Arizona St in the title game. Not sure if they want to see Kansas in the title game either. WVU carries that national respect that should help them.

The AP counts for a lot in the respect that the #1 team in the AP Poll gets a national championship. UC went from not receiving votes to almost being ranked. So if UC can crack the coaches poll (which they are receiving votes in), then MAYBE UC can inch into the BCS rankings this week.

Kansas still has to play Oklahoma State in Stillwater, and have Missouri at home. Either team is capable of getting up for an upset. Plus, they'll probably have to face Oklahoma in the Big 12 Championship game. That's not exactly an easy road. No matter how it works out, either Oklahoma or Kansas is guaranteed a loss before the bowl bids come out.

LSU is going to run out of miracles. It'll happen in the SEC Championship game, if not sooner. Eventually their luck will run out.

Ohio State will lose at Michigan. Their undefeated days are over. Michigan remembers losing a close game last year in Columbus. This year they get them in Ann Arbor. That should be the difference.

Oregon could stumble at UCLA. The Bruins have been up and down, as usual, so I wouldn't bet the farm on it. I expect Oregon and Oklahoma to win out, although Kansas could win out and surprise us all. I doubt the Mountaineers will get a chance to play for the BCS Championship as a one loss team. They'll need to be undefeated to get enough notice. But a BCS bowl game will be a nice consolation prize.

I've noticed something... 07-coffee3

The vote difference between #6 WVU and #1 Ohio State is a bit less than the distance between #6 WVU and #8 Boston College.

RE: WVU is sitting pretty right now. - Krocker Krapp - 11-04-2007 04:25 PM

In all honesty, Kansas should have moved all the way up to #2, they are still undefeated and play in the Big 12. As the season goes on, if Kansas does not deserve to be #2, they will lose just like USF lost, Cal lost, and BC lost. Voters need to just let the season play out.

What they are doing now is trying to force fit LSU into the title game with all their "best one-loss team" and "most talented team" comments. That is hogwash and I am sick of it. The "best teams" and "most talented" teams should win every game they play all season long.

If, by the end of the season, Kansas runs the table in the Big 12, and then beats Oklahoma in their title game, they clearly would have a gripe about being screwed by poll voters who decided the BCS Title Game opponents in the middle of the season rather than waiting.

As for the Big East, we have beat up on each other too much, so it will be difficult to get a second BCS team. A two-loss Connecticut would drop too low in the polls to be eligible and a three-loss South Florida, Cincinnati, or Connecticut will not get any BCS love at all.

Maybe a two-loss West Virginia could get an at-large BCS bid but that means either Connecticut or Cincinnati will have to run the table from here on out. But the Mountaineers will need to beat both of those teams to run the table and they will also have to play each other.

It's the final poll that matters.

The top 7 have some separation from the rest of the pack.

Have the computers blown a few circuits? WVU falls from 7 to 12? I can understand some but Georgia moves ahead with a win against Troy?

WVU had its chance. If we had taken care of business in Tampa, we would be #1 or #2 right now, so we have nobody to blame but ourselves.

There are still tough games ahead, so it's too soon to predict what will happen. I think WVU will win out, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if we lose a game.

IF we win out, then the odds of us reaching the title game seem pretty slim. But, again, had we pulled out the win against the Bulls, it wouldn't be an issue.

The biggest thing is for the BE to take care of business in the bowl games again. We don't have to go 5-0 (or 6-0), but we need a winning record overall, and another BCS bowl win would be sweet indeed.

RE: WVU is sitting pretty right now. - MOUNTAINEERFAN64 - 11-04-2007 06:54 PM

I've come to the conclusion WVU may as well just win out and prepare to face whoever the pollsters allow them to face in a NON TITLE BCS BOWL. The biased polls ARE NOT GOING TO ALLOW A BIG EAST TEAM IN THE NATIONAL TITLE GAME! If the bias isn't clear now, what does it take to make people see? This is truly unfair to this WVU team! 03-puke

RE: WVU is sitting pretty right now. - Krocker Krapp - 11-05-2007 02:55 PM

The current poll plays a big role in how the final poll will look. Kansas should have been moved up to #2 this week. If they win out, and defeat Oklahoma in the Big 12 title game, the BCS will have a serious problem. How can the voters suddenly reverse themselves and drop LSU down if they also win the SEC title game? But how can the BCS put a one-loss SEC team into the BCS Title Game over an undefeated Big 12 team as well?

This is why poll voters need to look at how teams are playing now rather than trying to project what they want to see at the end of the season. If they were to move Kansas to #2 this week, and they really do not deserve to be there, they will lose and can be dropped when that happens. But what if the poll voters are wrong? What if Kansas is for real? They will get screwed out of the BCS Title Game based on bias and homerism.
