Big East possible expansions - UCFullKnightro - 10-23-2007 09:56 PM

I'm just curious as of what teams you would like to see enter the Big East soon. I think a good choice for the remaining 4 teams would be: UCF, FAU, Troy, and Navy. That would make a strong conference right there.

Not another one. Geez. We have beaten these expansion discussions to death. If I had to pick today assuming all the teams meet basic criteria: fans, committed to football, TV market, possible bowl site

1) Temple - Philly market
2) UCF - Orlando market
3) ECU - great fan
4) Memphis - Southern but has history with Cincy/UL

I am on record as predicting that the Big East will be 9+ Notre Dame after the split. I stand by my prediction that the post split BE will be the current FB schools, UCF, and Notre Dame in everything but FB. That way there is 8 conference FB games and 18 BB games with everyone playing a home and home.

Nothing I can see leads me to change that prediction. This is not my preference but rather what I think based on geography, media market, athletic potential, and non revenue expenses.

Temple has a good shot to be readmitted as the 10th member is Notre Dame decides to go with the Catholic schools. The 4th largest media market in the middle of the conference footprint isn't going to work.

I think Temple would do great with a 35K seat stadium
. A real shame Delaware,Maine,Vermont don't play D-1A football. All 3 of those states have resources and they would be the "Flagship" schools of there state. I just have to look at the Big 10/Big 12/SEC all the big schools in those conference are "State Schools". The North East is really behind IMO. Mass,Vermont,Delaware,Maine all have football programs too.

Let's not forget Kennesaw State.

Oh brother...you aren't SERIOUSLY starting this thread, are you? This is the most ignorant post I've ever read. "The remaining 4 teams"?! There is no reason that this conference will add 4 schools...and certainly not THOSE schools. If you're going to post about expansion, be smart about it. Come on!

University of Phoenix Online has a hell of a hoops tradition.

RE: Big East expansion - KNIGHTTIME - 10-24-2007 09:55 AM

Our Lady of the Lake University is fielding a good football team these days. Word on the street is that the SEC might take them. http://www.ollusa.edu/s/346/start.aspx

Seriously, no expansion will take place until the NBE T.V contract is up. I only see the contract get bigger so no reason to expand at that point either.

RE: Big East possible expansions - army56mike - 10-24-2007 08:04 PM

I think we should add either.....

Western Kentucky
Eastern Kentucky
Morehead St.
Murray St.

or

Kentucky Wesleyan
Kentucky St.
Transylvania U.
Georgetown College

Where's David K. to remind us the Big East needs Akron and Ohio?

RE: Big East possible expansions - chargeradio - 10-24-2007 08:19 PM

If Akron or Ohio could string together a few good seasons in both basketball and football, one of them might not be such a bad pick.

Toledo offers a larger market if you're going the MAC route.

RE: Big East possible expansions - David Krysakowski - 10-24-2007 09:33 PM

I still think that the Big East should look this after the split.

Eastern Division
Buffalo
Connecticut
Rutgers
South Florida
Syracuse
Temple

Western Division
Akron
Cincinnati
Louisville
Pittsburgh
Toledo
West Virginia

Columbus is bigger than Toledo, so I say go for Ohio State.

I don't think we could get Morehead State..... they're holding out for the SEC.

Should we change the name of the conference to Big MAC too?

?

Ohio has its own TV package it the Columbus market, thereby making it a bigger market acquisition then Toledo.
