Quote:Tony Thomas, Jr. Named National & ACC Baseball Player of the Week

Thomas hit .579 with five home runs in four games last week.

Tallahassee, Fla. - Tony Thomas, Jr. was recognized at both the national and conference level on Monday, April 2 for his efforts this past week as top-ranked Florida State posted a 3-1 record including a series victory at Duke in the Seminoles first road series of the season.

Thomas had a career week as he hit .579 in four games going 11-for-19 with five home runs, five singles and a double. The junior second baseman scored nine times and registered 8 RBI's, while going a perfect 4-for-4 in the stolen base category. He also tallied 27 total bases, slugged 1.421 and was perfect in the field converting on all 16 opportunities at second base last week.

The Valrico, Fla., native feasted on Duke pitching over the weekend as he hit .643 (9-for-14) with five home runs, eight runs scored and eight RBI's. Thomas posted career-highs with two home runs and nine total bases in game one as he slugged 2.250 on Friday night in Durham. In game one, Thomas hit back-to-back home runs in his first two at-bats as he saw just three pitches.

In game two, Thomas led off the game with a double and then hit a solo shot for his third home run of the series.

Game three featured much of the same as Thomas once again led off the game with a hit, an infield single to second. He hit a two-run homer in the second and followed that with another single in the fourth. His last at-bat was a mirror image of how he began the series, blasting another home run, his fifth of the series and second two-run homer of the game. In the series finale, he set a career-high with 10 total bases and tied career-highs in runs scored (4) and home runs (2). He was 3-for-3 in leading off the game vs. Duke with a home run, a double and a single.

It is the third recognition for Thomas as the ACC Player of the Week this season. He joins a list of six other Seminole greats to be recognized by the league office three times in the same year. The last Florida State player to perform such a feat was Mike Ziegler in 2000.

Thomas also became the second Seminole this season to be named Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week. He joins fellow teammate Bryan Henry, who was recognized back on Monday, February 5th for his performance on opening day against Tennessee.
