WHEW, the losing streak has ended! After a tentative first half and being down 10 at the half, Wake came out much stronger on defense in the second and pulled out the win. Chris Paul scored 25 including 10-11 from the line. He showed no fear in matching up with Gilchrist. Kyle Visser came off the bench to light a fire under the Deacs, showing an old school feel for the low post. Justin Gray had a great first half (really the only thing keeping Wake in the game at that point) and finally remembered that he is allowed to cross inside the 3 point arc to drive the lane. 03-wink

I'm proud of my Deacs for not giving up...and for giving the crowd & the fans watching at home something to cheer about!

And that Howard #5 looks mighty nice hanging from the rafters... :)

Paul absolutely torched JG like no one I have seen, he got by Gilchrest whenever he wanted to and when Gilchrest finally started to play back and give him a little space Paul dropped a 3 in his grill. Also JG couldn't get anything going on offense against Paul, while he has been able to penetrate at will against the other big time ACC point guards.

Chris Paul is a heck of a player, he is just so quick on offense and defense. With his performance tonight I would say he would have to be the best point guard in the ACC. Gilchrest has been able to hold his own agains the Big 3 of Duhon, Felton and Jack but he couldnt get anything going on either end of the floor against Paul.

It was a great game and im sure you were more than a little scared with the run we made at the end. 03-razz

Can't wait till we meet again in CP.

Gosh yes, those 2 threes scared me! Thank goodness Wake maintained composure much better than I did...

The game in College Park should be another barnburner.

Congrats on a good vistory Lucy. By the way, it was 3 3 pointers in a row at the end (don't forget Mr. Jones). If you ask me though, the difference maker wasn't as much Paul as it was Visser and the break-down of Jamar in the second half. I have said over and over that once Jamar turns to the basket, UMD suffers. He played back to the basket in the first half and did great. For some reason he changed what was was working in the first half to what never works in the second. Paul was great and I can not wait till they visit CP. I have a feeling things will be a little different.

Not taking from Wake at all. They played a very inspired second half and with-stood a very promising last minute UMD explosion.

ps. Did you see NCM fly over your big men for the follow-up dunk. He is a man-beast and the most under-rated player in the ACC.

Actually I was more impressed with NCM's ability to shoot from the outside. That makes him much harder to defend.

He is pretty sick. I can't wait to see how good they all are next year and the year after. The way I see it, I hope these guys keep getting under-appreciated by the press so they will stay all 4 years. Bad news for Wake though. You are almost guartanteed that if Paul gets the Freshman of the year and all the other awards he is up for, he is gone like TJ.

I dunno. Chris is a dean's list student. I could see him staying all four years, or worst case scenario, leaving after 3. And he does have Tim Duncan & Josh Howard as examples of "you can still get big money staying all 4". :)

Was I hearing things, or did Dickie V actually mention the "Screamin' Deacons" by name? I thought he only knew about the TEH CAMERON CRAZIES BAYBEE!!!!11

You really did hear dookie V mention the Screamin' Demons & the Freakin' Deacons! Somewhere Hell froze over for a moment... 03-wink

Duncan yes, Howard No. Josh had no choice. He would never had gone in the higher 1st round as a Junior or Soph. He stayed for the money. Duncan on the other hand is a class act. Problem is though Lucy, future injuries and money talks. TJ wasn't ready, but he got his money. Paul isn't going to risk ruining his hype by staying long enough to seem average. Opportunity makes you money.

TJ Ford is doing very well in the NBA, I think he definitley was ready. Of course he is overshadowed by Lebron and Carmello but there arent too many players in all of the NBA that arent overshadowed by those two guys.
