I heard that Boston College is planning to adopt "Dixie" as its new fight song once it officially enters the Atlantic Coast conference.

BC officials feel that such a move will show the southern teams of the ACC how much BC is determined to fit into a traditional southern conference while simultaneously relieving any possible concerns that inviting a yankee school was a misstake.

Let's sing: "I wish I was in the land of cotton... Look away! Look away! Look Away! Dixieland.
In Dixieland I take my stand to live and die in Dixie! Look away! Look away! Away down south in Dixie."

Now, in case you were wondering, Ole Miss officials have gone on record and stated that they have no problem with Boston College adopting the song. Also, there will be no confusion as to which school is more associated with the song since Ole Miss has been forced to down play its confederate symbolism in the name of political correctness. Boston College may also adopt the confederate flag as its official school symbol. However, I have not yet heard anything definitive on that yet. Nevertheless, I would not be surprised if Boston College cheerleaders run onto the football field at Clemson waving the confederate flag.

In other words, Boston College will fit right in. Even better than ECU would have.

Go Boston College!!!

Go Dixie!!!

No Dixie for BC ... That whare the similarity ends. - dave kade - 01-26-2006 11:57 PM

BC much like it's ACC counterparts boasts 31 division 1 varsity sports and is a text book jock school. However, almost everybody looks the same, comes from the north east and has New Englands only Hardcore fan base like a Florida State or Clemson. Our Stadium is only limited buy Chestnut Hill Zoning regulations.

You won't here Dixie around here but the Pougues and the Dropkick Murphys belting out "Kiss me I'm S**t faced." Sorry Old Miss but Life in the North East is a lot Faster, Harder and dare I say it much more rude and rapid fire. Most Alumni are proud of our abbrasive New England attitude or at least have a sence of humor about it.

BC is not a southern school, however, are Athletics, Alumni, Acedemics and the Passion to "ever excel" set us apart from Pitt, Syracuse, West Virginia and all other want-a-be's and puts us in the mix with Duke, North Carolina, UVA, Wake Forrest etc. Look at our students and the top schools they apply to like; Harvard, Penn, Columbia, Holy Cross, Notre Dame, Georgetown, BU and Villanova to mention a few. This year we actually raised math and verbal SAT Scores (1290-1420) and lowered admission to less the 30%. I hope we can draw students from other ACC schools to BC as well as send some of our applicants to other ACC schools.

What BC really needs is to start to recruit athletes from traditional ACC strongholds; Maryland, Virginia, the Carolinas and Florida. But, please keep your Dixie where it belongs " South of the Boarder."
