David Mullins halftime interview - PittsburghBucs - 03-02-2007 08:02 PM

Interesting.

David Mullins was asked about new facilities- and he mentioned ETSU was going to start construction of the soccer stadium next month (I was wondering)- take bids on the softball stadium in the summer- and was in the process of raising money for a new arena and baseball field.

He said NOTHING about football.

That's quite telling.

Mullins also said Memorial Center was built in 1974 (not true. That may be when construction started- but it was three years before completion).

He stated he would like to keep the building as a practice facility.

But- wait a minute- I thought there was a big feature in the Johnson City Press three years ago saying it will be torn down by 2014!

Why am I the only guy who is willing to call him out on this?

I would have to argee Mullins is not my favorite either. He doesn't give a $hit about football.

It's more than that- Buchoops.

It's no secret that David Mullins isn't for the return of ETSU football.

I've heard several theories if ETSU football does come back, Mullins will retire and ETSU can go about reviving the athletic program that fell so far under his tenure.

But who says Mullins wants to retire? Who says Mullins doesn't want to keep his job?

That interview where he didn't mention the efforts to bring back football speaks volumes.

What is he doing? Even when he was asked by Richard Lovette at the "bring back football" press conference in December- Mullins spoke not in specifics but in nonsensical "people love this university!" soundbites.

Mullins could do things like bring Paul Hamilton or other football figures into the forefront and raise money. He could list a plan for a new football stadium and where to donate to it on the website. He could make appearances on sports talk shows and tell people how the fundraising was coming along.

He's done NONE of that.

So instead of, say, wooing a former player or coach or even someone like maybe P.J. Grinsell or Chip Kessler to talk to a millionaire who is a potential donor- he's letting Paul Stanton do it.

A fool and his money are soon parted, but a millionaire is not.

So if I get the call from Stanton- here's what I tell him-

"Wait a minute? You want me to give you X hundred thousand dollars so I can bail your @ss out from your worst decision as college president?

"What's the next mistake you're going to make that you want me to pay for?"

Can't believe it, but Pitt, that post is right on. You mean he did a whole, "here's what we're raising money for" interview and not a word about football????? Stanton needs to get the pink slips out of his top drawer again so he can save the school some more money.

Saw where 00 had come back to the forum and I thought I'd make this post.

Mullins said that construction was supposed to start on the soccer stadium in April.

Now, I don't know, but I don't see any stands. I really don't see much except them continuing to level the field.

This is stadium construction?
