What an insult...at the bottom, where it gives a capsule for each school, Lipscomb's has Belmont's logo. 01-lauramac2

Quote:Of the A-Sun's 10 current universities, only one (Mercer) has been around since the conference's inception in 1978, and the second-longest tenured school (Stetson) joined seven years later. There are 19 schools that can call themselves ex-members, and seven D-I conferences have at least one former TAAC/A-Sun school in their midst.

The amount of transition in the A-Sun's history is amazing. I think about all the schools that came and went during UCF's tenure in the A-Sun/TAAC (College of Charleston, Centenary, Jacksonville State, Samford, Florida International, Georgia State, and maybe a couple others I forgot), and it's impressive that this league has managed to keep on going. Nevertheless, I think the A-Sun needs to stabilize membership. It's hard for a conference to grow with so many schools constantly coming and going.

- Buccaneerlover - 08-20-2006 11:47 AM

Well honestly UCF, would you have wanted the Knights to stay in the A-Sun, or move forward to C-USA and grow? This conference I think understands what it is, it's the conference in the south that introduces the D-2's into D-1, allows them to get used to playing on a larger scale, then sends them on their way.
You could call it the high school of D-1 conferences.

- Owlzfan84 - 08-20-2006 12:53 PM

yea..and in a few years campbell will be gone and GW. also lipscomb will add their football team soon and i can see etsu and ksu leaving shortly after that.

The A-Sun could be more than that with the right leadership. If Bill Bibb truly views his conference in a "high school" way, it's too bad.

I think I read somewhere that Gardner-Webb was leaving after next season. Where are Campbell, Lipscomb, ETSU, and Kennesaw all heading to?

- Nick M - 08-22-2006 06:38 AM

KSU isn't headed anywhere soon. We'll live out the probationary period +4-5 at least.

The stakeholders desperately cry for a football team but the Board of Regents needs to approve and the Ath. Dir. needs to get in the ball game. Not out of reach but when KSU gets football, it'll be adios A-sun.

well no where technically, but with the addition of campbells football team and its almost certain that lipscomb is adding one..i mean they obviously wont be staying in the a-sun much longer. etsu has a pretty good shot of getting their football team back, so i cant see them being here longer then 5 years....and ksu will be gone as soon as they add a football team and the probation period is gone. also does anyone know if jacksonville is looking anywhere? saying they have a football team.

- andone - 08-22-2006 11:11 AM

I don't know that CU will be going anywhere soon, not with a non-scholly football program. My guess is that perhaps the A-Sun will go the way of the CAA and become a football conference..........wishful thinking probably.

Jacksonville plays non-scholarship 1-AA football. They play in a football conference, but I don't remember the name of it.

Doesn't Lipscomb already have a 1-AA football team? I thought they did.

Great to hear that Campbell is getting a team. In a few years, maybe Camel fans will be rooting for their football team against some of their in-state brethern like NC State, North Carolina, Wake Forest, and ECU.

lipscomb doesnt have one yet..but its almost official. you go to their website and they have some stuff about football..their already selling football shirts at the school and stuff.

i also see that you're a UCF fan(obviously). hope u guys do even better this season. i love you're coach, he did great things for tech and he was easily coach of the year last year in all of college football. who knows..pretty soon you all might be up there with miami, UF, and FSU.

Thanks! We play at UF this season, as a matter of fact. Maybe we'll spring an early season upset on 'em. There aren't too many visiting teams that win in Gainesville, though.

Best of luck to Lipscomb in pursuing football.

It's an important game for both Southern Miss and UCF, no doubt.

Don't hold your breath on Lipscomb getting football. There have been rumors for decades about football coming to campus.

The only football you'll see at Lipscomb is intramural flag football and the campus high school's games.

When I came to Campbell everyone said that we would never have a football team or a new gym because they been talking about it for years.

My senior year and everything is going to happen '08 03-weeping (through Wallace taking over as President did make a HUGE difference)

What I am saying is that it could happen.
Don't give up hope..
Don't stop believin'.....
