Way OT - "I Stole From Wal-Mart" - Kedzman - 05-07-2007 11:32 AM

Very interesting article...

Link

I rather like this idea. Public humiliation works as a great deterent. It is also taxpayer friendly, keeping the cost of punishment down by keeping minor offenders out of crowded jails. This makes the punishment for a crime much more visible to the public at large. If a shoplifter goes to jail, the public doesn't see them. Jail sends a message to the criminal only. This approach sends a message to the thousands of people walking in and out of the store.

Now, that I look again, you don't recognize him at all.

Spiderman 3?
Hard Days Night. This conversation resembled that film.

I don't know how many of you have seen "Curb Your Enthusiasm", but there is an episode in the second season called "The Massage," where Larry David gets caught stealing a fork from a restaurant (long story). As a result, the judge makes him wear a sign that says "I steal forks from restaurants."

The convicted is given the choice between public humiliation and jail time, so as long as he has the choice, I approve.

Jail time is still a deterent, even if noone sees the jailbirds.
