Troy University alum wins Reese's Cup
HERSHEY, Pa. -- Troy University graduate Ben Bates made a two-foot par putt on the eighth playoff hole to beat Paul Gow and win the Nationwide Tour's Reese's Cup Classic on Sunday.
Bates made a 22-foot birdie putt on the 72nd hole for a 2-over 73 and a 6-under 278 total to force the playoff.
The 43-year-old Bates won for the first time since the 1997 Wichita Open and earned $81,000, moving into 15th place on the money list.
"We put on quite a show for the people here," Bates said, referring to the playoff that matched the second-longest in the developmental tour's 15-year history.
