For the sake of the legitimacy of the sport Kent State should immediately kill their program and save the money. Hard to imagine the President signing another multimillion dollar check next season to continue this cherade. What a complete joke to lose to Akron by 38 points in front of two bands and 35 parents. There were more people at Damons watching the OSU-Meeeeechigan game than were in Dix Stadium on Saturday.

Very well said -- if more people in the northeast Ohio community are more interested in watching Ohio State, than what's the point of pouring in millions of dollars to this program which will never see the light of day? This is just one reason, but the football program needs a major change of direction and it just won't cut it with a new coaching staff.
If they do -- and they should -- move down to D-IAA or DII, what does that mean for the other sports at Kent State in the MAC? I thought I read somewhere that it's a MAC rule if you don't have a football program in the conference, none of the other sports can be members as well. However, we all know that Kentucky is a member of the MAC in men's soccer and I think there are some other examples. Does anyone else know the rule on this issue?
So after all the millions of dollars poured into the program -- not to mention the major upgrades to Dix Stadium and the indoor Fieldhouse for the team to practice next door -- all they can manage is 3,000 people at a home game and another losing season?
Let's not forget who also gets the shaft from the football team as well -- the other student-athletes. If they drop men's wresting, track or any other sport -- because they want to save money, we all know what the problem is -- football. I'm sure it's not in the plans of Laing Kennedy, but I'm beginning to get more letters in the mail asking for my Varsity K and alumni donations.

There were not 3,000 people at the game. I was there and there were barely 500 people in the stands. The number you saw in the paper is the "anounced" number which is 100% bogus. If you had been at the game you would know that 3,000 people were not there, unless they came dressed as aluminum bleachers.

Really going out on a limb there though, criticizing Kent State football. Takes a really knowledgable sports fan to see there's a problem in that program!
