Tennessee (10-1, 7-1 S-E-C), which never led until Graham's score, will play number two Ohio State in the Florida Citrus Bowl on New Year's Day. The Buckeyes were denied a berth in the Rose Bowl today with to a 31-23 loss at Michigan. Graham, who carried 39 times, had one-yard plunge that capped a 10-play, 69-yard drive over 3:24. The extra point was missed. It was a record-setting day for Graham and quarterback Peyton Manning, who was 26-for-42 for 265 yards. Graham broke Johnnie Jones' school single-season rushing mark of 1,290 yards set in 1984. He also set the season rushing attempts mark, held by Reggie Cobb (237 in 1987). Manning set school season records for passing yardage, attempts, completions and total yardage, all established by Andy Kelly in 1991. The Vols recorded four sacks today and set a school record with 42 for the season. Tennessee outgained Vanderbilt, 455-192, in total yards but was penalized 11 times for 121 yards. Vanderbilt (2-9, 1-7) split its final four games of the season after dropping the first seven. The Commodores were facing their second straight top five team after a 38-7 loss to number three Florida last week. Vanderbilt scored on the first possession of the game on a 12-yard pass from Damian Allen to Fred Baker. The 11-play, 80-yard drive took 6:18 and was the lone score of the day for the Commodores. Tennessee answered with 8:23 left in the second quarter with a one-yard plunge by Chester Ford. However, the extra point failed. Tennessee has won the last 12 meetings and is 28-2-1 in the last 31 games. Vanderbilt has not won in Knoxville since 1975. |
