...and the fact that we've already gotten bagged by two CUSA newcomers shows you how big of a dumpster fire the program is. I don't know what the answer is, but staying home on Saturday won't help. Jon Solomon's already started trolling.

The fact that there are 52 guests online RIGHT NOW (hi guys!) shows that there's interest. I care. You care. We all do. Everyone needs to take ownership and pride in the program.

Holy hell, 52 whole people. Might break an attendance record at Legion Field next week.

The thing is, even though he's doing it to troll UAB fans and he's a complete homer for Alabama, he's right. The current state of affairs, which has been the state of affairs since the day I took my first class at UAB, are a complete and utter embarrassment to the university and it's pretty sad that it takes someone who has clear disdain for UAB to point it out.

(10-26-2013 08:15 PM)BAMANBLAZERFAN Wrote:  I'm sure he is VERY frustrated tonight. I don't believe he is "at wits end" though because he knows there is an answer to our problems. They lie in more improved recruits and facilities as I'm sure he has been promised by the administration (when they hired him). He may also be considering more staff changes this winter. We will just have to wait to see how it all turns out after NSD in Feb.

Hopefully he'll find a way to get his team ready to play with the facilities and players he has.

You know, his job?

It is possible that a team can be "ready to play" but still not win. Half of the coaches in America lost this Saturday, and I can't assume that they all failed to get their teams "ready to play". Many were probably just overwhelmed by better teams - and yes - with better facilities and perhaps coaches. For the rest of this season, we have the team we have, the coaches we have and limitations we have. Maybe they can be successfully overcome in the remaining games.

Do you honestly believe we were ready to play today?

I wasn't there to see the game and experience the mood / mind set of the team. Like I said, it is possible for even a well prepared team to lose a game - and as NC State and UTK illustrated today - lose it badly. Sometimes you are just overmatched and that could have been the case today in San Antonio. As I observed, half of all teams playing today lost to some other team. Did they all come in totally unprepared?

Are we playing well below what was expected by those who make a living evaluating teams?

Did you listen to the game? They scored at will. We sucked at every phase of the game. We were out of the game in the 1st quarter. Against at team we were purportedly evenly matched to.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say we weren't ready to play.

Is your obtuseness intentional?

The fact that new teams defeated UAB, hardly a C-USA powerhouse, may just mean that the conference got a great upgrade of quality teams with its new members. If UAB fails to "meet the competition" in the "New C-USA", then we are in deep trouble. Were there not some quotes from instate players that went to play elsewhere last winter about UAB's lack of modern FACILITIES being a factor in their decisions?

Central Florida and Houston would annihilate any of these clown teams entering CUSA.

So what do you propose?

I think a good path, to give UAB one last chance, would be for the Board and the UAB administration to sit down and come up with a real plan. Set some goals. "You must have an average yearly attendance of X, an average revenue or donations of Y, sell Z number of season tickets, and have A firm, in writing commitments to luxury boxes before we will approve building a stadium." This idea that we just have to suffer along until UAB improves and a stadium will magically happen is insanity. Garrick McGee was a pretty hot assistant when he decided to come to UAB. Now that UAB has managed to ruin his career, whether or not it's his shoddy coaching or the fact that the ghost of Bear Bryant haunts the 711 building, why would a decent coach ever come to UAB? Why would a decent player ever come to UAB? Nebulous statements such as "improve support before you come back to us" without any hard numbers or goals to reach is simply saying "No, full stop". No other department on campus could operate in such a manner, and it's a total disservice to everyone involved to just continue the current status quo in perpetuity without any hope or real plan to improve.

Either do the above, or cut bait and get out of the football business altogether.

So would Alabama and LSU. They're not in CUSA just like Central Florida or Houston, so I'm not sure what your point is.

And how exactly do you propose forcing Fess and Cubby to honor any agreed upon criteria, or hell, to agree on the criteria?

"maybe the conference got a great upgrade of quality teams"..........I was saying the opposite, that UCF and Houston would clobber the teams that are replacing them in CUSA.

I don't. You're not going to force them to do anything. You go to them with this plan, ask them what they think, and if they balk then it's time to shut it down, because at that point it is 100% clear where they stand. It's as much about getting a final answer from them as it is coming up with the plan.

Which is why I never say that people who think we should bounce around the bottom forever should shut up, which is the response I constantly get. I may think you're wrong, but you should be able to say whatever you believe.

I also think this is misguided, because it assumes that when Bryant and St. John are gone the problems will magically be resolved, but if you think that is true you are pretty naive.
