RE: Visitors this weekend (Champlin article at post #2)
Drew said it's VERY hard getting any information out of the UAB football complex (case in point, the 2 new coaches have been on the job for at least a week, and still no official release yet). Also consider the fact that Rivals, 247Sports, ESPN and Scout do not follow UAB's recruits every move, like they do at places like Alabama or Notre Dame. Drew does pretty good for what it is, and for what dinky amount they are probably paying him.

No complaints here on Drew's coverage.

The reason we don't know them is demonstrated by the case of TJ Green.
There will be more "decommits" before signing day, but that's also for good reason (better guys to fill their spots).
It'll be a great class, worth celebrating, without doubt.
See you on the 6th.

I hope you are correct, but it would have been nice to be able to hold onto players like T.J. Green that a borderline Top-10 program actually wanted..............instead players that have practically no other FBS offers.

Jeff Sentell (al.com) has a new article interviewing the local kids that de-committed from UAB. Facilities kept coming up. Interesting read, but wish some of these kids had been more loyal.

Having an on-campus stadium would work wonders......especially with the btand new Baron's stadium right down the street!

Facilities are about more than just a stadium anyway. UAB just needs to focus on doing everything they can to improve the whole campus. That goes for research development, undergrad development, med school development, etc.
There are some good things on the horizon with plans for a new campus transportation, new dorms, new student center, etc. Those are all important aspects and contribute to recruits perception of the campus. Of course winning and an oncampus stadium would help tremendously, but there are other things we can do that won't turn into a battle with the BOT. Hopefully once Dean Watts becomes president, he will really hit the ground running and get projects in motion.

Watts will be really good (I think). Robert Witt taking over the system can't hurt either. He knows how important sports are to an university, and his recruitment of undergraduates will be HUGE!

You're 1000% right but it's a broken record(not you-the concept). Win games against the people you're losing recruits to? Maybe. Get people out to the games when your not winning? Not for long.
It just sucks that there is no investment.
It's hard to get a business going or keep it vibrant without some investment somewhere along the way because there's a belief that investment will pay off.

We have tried putting the chicken before the egg and that hasn't worked out.

Schools in the Top 10 recruit the players those reporters know from various Top 150 or Top 200 lists so talking about them is easy to do. By this time of year, even casual fans know some of the prospects from constant repetition on TV recruiting shows. When you are recruiting from the "great unknown masses" of prospects, don't expect even the big "recruiting experts" to mention them. They probably don't even know they exist.

You have media outlets like ESPN promoting some of the top schools & their recruiting.

Well there is one reason and we all know it. They want no competition for viewers, money, anything.
