Good lord. It's almost laughable. The dude is so caught up in his own "honor code" that he's making this a circus. Look at the quote he gave about UC in the previous post"

Asked if UC had made a counter proposal, Jones said, “They’re working on it. They’ll do the appropriate thing. I’m not trying to play one side against the other. That has nothing to do with it.”

What?? Ono gave every indication the meeting was yesterday, the counter offer was made yesterday and the decision was expected yesterday. There have been ZERO indications that UC is continuing to work on some package to keep him!!!

He's either simply trying to control the message so he can lie to himself in the mirror AFTER he tells the team tomorrow OR he's stalling CU because he's backdooring talks w/ Wisconsin...or even Tennessee who seems to have wiffed on Strong and Gundy.

Thanks for your service Butch......move along.

If you've ever been in any sort of negotiation you'd see that often an initial proposal is discussed and then the other person (Butch) might ask for something else or something more, then the other side has to consider it or go back to the powers that be (BOT) and get authority or offer something back. So maybe that's what is going on as far as UC's counter. I'd find it hard to believe we'd still be formulating a first counter two days after learning of the CU offer but who really knows at this point.

RE: Denver Post reporting Butch Jones accepts offer to be Colorado's football coach
Denver Post updates:

Quote:Butch Jones to be Colorado coach, source says; Jones denies decision

Cincinnati football coach Butch Jones said Wednesday afternoon that reports of him becoming the new Colorado football coach "are absolutely false."
A source close to the negotiations told The Denver Post earlier Wednesday afternoon that Jones would be the new CU coach, but that final details were being worked out.
CU media relations department released a statement saying: "We have nothing to confirm at this time, and no deal with anyone has been reached."
Jones was in Charlotte, N. C. on Wednesday for a Belk Bowl news conference, the site of the game between Cincinnati and Duke. At that news conference, Jones said he expected to make a decision "pretty soon" about whether to accept an offer to become Colorado's new coach.
When The Denver Post online report was posted saying he would become the new coach at Colorado, Jones told Cincinnati.com, "No decision has been made. That's false and erroneous. I'm just trying to make a decision. I'm taking my time and making sure I make the right decision because there's a lot of families at stake."
Asked when he would make his decision, Jones said, "I don't know. I've got to get this over with. I'm not doing anything tonight."
Colorado had offered Jones a five-year contract worth $13.5 million when he visited on Monday, a source told The Denver Post.
Reporters were told before the news conference in Charlotte they could not ask questions about Jones' job status. However, Jones did answer a few questions.
When asked if he expected a resolution soon, he said: "Yes, pretty soon." He added there was no deadline.

My guess is the CO report is right and Butch just got jumped before he could tell he players. This entire thing stinks. The drama level on this process is nuts.

Sometimes I wonder why nothing ever seems easy, uncomplicated or simple when it comes to UC. Sometime I feel cursed.

If that's true then between CU leaking this and inviting and allowing photogs during the visit ought to be raising red flags for CBJ. Looks like amateur hour out in Wacky Weed Hippy U.

Colorado radio version: people associated with Butch told people associated with CO today that that Butch decided to take the job but not to say anything until 9pm Cinti time tonight until Butch told players. One of those people on the CU end couldn't keep it secret and blabbed to the Post.

one of hosts still can't understand why butch thought secret could be kept these days with regard to above AND with regard to doing the press conference today rather than prioritizing telling the team.

If true, would explain the thought process behind the QB cluster this season.

Then if this was all decided by butch why according to Lance's conversationmwith Butch is his wife calling him at 6 pm when the Denver Post story broke asking him what's going on? Wouldn't she have known this by now? And why would he issue such a strong denial only to have to retract it again at 9 pm after his return? Doesn't that look worse than just letting the story go and high tailing it home to talk to the team? Colorado radios reports just don't add up.

Rath- can you ever let that go. It is starting to remind me of Don's obsession with second guessing Mick's decisions.

Under that narrative, Lance would have been fed a big ol' crock of bs to buy him time to get back to talk to the players first.

That would make this even uglier than it has been.

what a joke this whole thing has become. when being a decent coach ends and a lousy human being begins.

whoever coined it on here: "represent the ME" sums it up perfectly.

On the plus side, this is at least less embarrassing than being publicly turned down for a job opening the way Tennessee seemingly is every few years.

He comes out looking extra bad if he's vehemently denying a decision and then confirming it two hours later. Hed be better off shutting up and just flying home to see his team.

Butchys got some splainin to do!!
