Once again, like the UWGB coach going to Illinois, a mid-major coach is leaving his job to take a job with a worse team in the Big 10. Too bad for the MAC.

I wonder if that minor stroke toward the end of the season got him thinking his own mortality and about the financially security of his family?

Being the head basletball coach in the Big Ten in the state on Indiana, a hotbed of basketball . . . what's not to like?

Tough dichotomy- go into the pressure cooker to get enough $ to assure your future should you not be able to continue or stay where you are comfortable and less likely to be under severe pressure but where you aren't making much and may really suffer if your health goes south.

I guess I'll never understand the need for a basketball practice facility. there's basketball courts all over every city, in every high school, grade school, etc. seems like a big waste of money.

Courts all over every city....Yes. But it's the extra stuff in these buildings that make them special. Special rehab facilities, whirl pools, rec rooms, study tables, special locker rooms, etc.....

RE: BG's Miller To Indiana
I don't mean this as any kind of a knock, but it's interesting that after having the stroke he took a job that will probably be higher pressure, and also that Indiana hired him knowing this. It seems like both the university and the coach are kind of taking a risk. But, I guess life is full of risks. You do your best to evaluate them, mitigate them, and then GO FOR IT!

In my opinion, he wanted to coach in the Big Ten. Michigan and Michigan State passed on him and he was going to have to take on a rebuilding project if he was going to break into the Big Ten.

On the news last night they said his base pay at Indiana is $275,000. Isn't that less that Cullop?

I think Cullop makes about $200,000 when you combine her base with the bonuses. She does not make more than what Indiana will be paying Miller. She was making more than Miller made at BG.

RE: BG's Miller To Indiana
The stroke he had may have had little to do with coaching basketball (including all the hours and "pressure" that goes into it). Miller have had to make some changes in his lifestyle - but coaching may be only a small factor. Seeing Rick Majerus coaching basketball at Saint Louis and still carrying a lot of weight around seems to be a bigger health concern - given his history of heart trouble/heart disease. Most people in those situations are not willing to change the profession lifestyle they love because it changes their quality of life too much - so they make other modifications (or take medications) to control the factors that led to the problem in the first place. I don't think he would knowingly put his life at risk and leave his kids without a father.

RE: BG's Miller To Indiana
I believe the doctors cleared him to return the very next game at BG, but he took a game off anyway. If the doctor's cleared him then I doubt it played much of a roll now.
