RE: 2012 Spring Game - Eastern Michigan University Football
Something else I noticed, there was lots of hard face-in-face contact there was.. The coaches on both side of the ball were getting into it alot.. I recall some heated exchanges between them guys.. It was ALL - GOOD and got the kids fired up on both sides of the ball..

I saw lots of new football drills and working on the feet and hips...

I am putting items down as they come to me guys.. My mind is not as good as it was years ago..

Maybe they could have been POTENTIAL'12 recruits?

I assume English was still looking at a JUCO DT from California to complete the '12 class.

Yeah you could be correct but it just seems as if each kid were talking about what their high school team was looking like in the coming fall season and what other offers they had.. The two juco were talking about what they were majoring in at their college and college girls who looked the best..

These visiting recruits were not paid for by emu and was on the parents I am assuming.. Their parents were talking about everyone getting together from difference hotels to have drinks.. Again going forward I will work on names.. I will also try to gather names to provide some more detail for everyone.. It's a good thing I am not a reporter huh? (smile)

Sounds like Junior Day, Round II.

(for those who couldn't make the March 17 event).

Any updates on Hook and Bowen? It appears that we will need immediate help from our incoming freshmen DL. We may have a learning curve on the DB side although we have alot of depth returning there.

I am hearing rumors about transferring kids coming in at other positions. Similar to your statements, they are only rumors..

I wish I was that smart. From reading this article I am not sure if English is really concern about the defense or just saying it..

You guys know him (English) better then I do, do you think he is really concern about the safety position so much that he didn't talk about it? I am a little lost because what are his other options he could go with?

He lost two very reliable guys in LT and Willie Williams. While Kevin Johnson and Pudge Cotton are very talented, they are somewhat raw. They will be the youngest starters on our defense, so it's understandable why English is focusing on them.

O/T and "OTW" (Off the wall):

Penn State is holding their spring ball and has 3 QBs, including Robert Bolden. They may well get the Maryland QB, Danny O'Brien, as a 5th year transfer.

I still wonder if Bolden does transfer after this academic year is over and is he what English is looking for in '13 as a QB.

Chance of all this happening: very slim but still fascinating.

Now back to Spring Ball...

Believe he signed one JUCO safety but otherwise it is KJ, Cotton, etc. or even a true frosh.

There will be numbers back there but the experience isn't there.

Cotton really got hurt by getting hurt in the 1st game.

If English could pull this off, it would probably chance the FB balance of power of the Mac. I don't know why you like getting me excited about rumors like theses.

It's seems as Penn may need to let Bolden leave to unclog the QB logjam there.. Wow what a differences a year makes in college football for Penn St.

Another thing, I am a little disappointed Coach English didn't talk more about the WR group or his TE's.. (I thought they looked very good). Also he had No comments on the LB's ? If I am reading this right, he must feel good about these areas going into the season correct?

Is it me or does it seem as if English is very concerned about this team being so young? There were a few comments about youth and that he was still looking at key positions on defense...

Something just isn't passing the smell test here with his comments, including the comments about him not handling the QB situation..

Am I reading too much into this news clip? Others followers please share your thoughts..

Sometimes I post, think second and then have to 'connect the dots'

What I forgot to post is that Bolden WANTED to transfer last spring and the late PSU coach refused his request.

Assuming the Maryland QB is coming (read he was seen at a PSU practice with a PSU sweat shirt or something), then PSU needs, as NuPudge indicates, to sort through the QB position and unclog it.

Can't have 3 or 4 QBs sharing time 05-nono esp. taking a 5th year transfer.

PSU would have at least 3 upperclassmen QBs trying to become the starter. UGH!!

At least one of the 'losers' should consider transferring. I don't see Bolden becoming the starter at PSU.

I'd like to have Bolden as a transfer and ready to compete with Benz and Iannotti in '13.

Dear NUPudge,
Personally, I think you are reading far too much into comments, spoken or not. You have to remember that this is spring football, and sometimes coaches experiment with players at various positions, or say things like, "everyone has a shot at this position" to encourage the non-starters and the starter to work harder. Generally the defense will be ahead of the offense, but when you look at the people lost on defense compared to offense it's understandable that Coach English may be more concerned about the defense. But, again remember this is spring football, and I think coaches want to have a feel for who or what may work in the fall.

If I remember correctly it was a somewhat contentious discussion.

I tried to look at what Hoke said, etc. and came to the conclusion that Hoke felt that he had to release Stonum yet felt bad having to do so.

It wasn't a case where Hoke really wanted him gone.

I remember being sympathetic to Stonum if English felt that he wanted him.

To be consistent I'm very sympathetic to transfers, be they FB or hoops.

I am not sure where English is with this transfer of this young man but wasn't there some off field issues with him? I am not saying this to rip the young man and everyone makes mistakes when they are young and in college (God know it did).

I thought a few people on this board were saying this could send the wrong message to the younger players on the team. I really don't think it matter, because I think Stonum may really want to prove a point to everyone that he has changed and show others that he can provide leadership and be a positive role model going forward..

I support English judgement in what he want to do with this situation.
