2011-12 SOS
I was going to post this on the "European Trip.." thread, but it got way off topic.

I took a look at 8 of the MAC teams in regards to opponents who made a postseason tourney. Here is what I came up with:

WMU: 19/34 (56%) games vs postseason teams. 12 non conference teams and 7 MAC teams.

Toledo: 10/34 (29%) games vs postseason teams. 4 non conference teams and 6 MAC teams.

EMU: 11/32 (34%) games vs postseason teams. 4 non conference teams and 7 MAC teams.

Akron: 20/33 (58%) games vs postseason teams. 9 non conference teams and 11 MAC teams.

Ohio: 19/34 (56%) games vs postseason teams. 7 non conference teams and 12 MAC teams.

Buffalo: 16/29 (55%) games vs postseason teams. 6 non conference teams and 10 MAC teams.

Kent: 15/32 (47%) games vs postseason teams. 5 non conference teams and 10 MAC teams.

BGSU: 14/31 (45%) games vs postseason teams. 5 non conference teams and 9 MAC teams

*Only Akron played near the number of non conference games against "quality" opponents that we did.

*Obviously each East team above has a guarantee of 9 games against postseason schools because of the round robin format and playing Toledo at least once.

*10 of our first 14 games were played against teams that are in the postseason. Only Hope, Winthrop, Duquesne, and SIU didn't make it.

RE: 2011-12 SOS
Hence my "Matrix" or whatever was construed as to me belief that
- Strength of schedule was not an or the issue
- Hawk could have won "winnable games" by addressing His weaknesses
- Yeah the kids didnt always execute and yes as a whole you play with the cards you're dealt. Injuries aside, all the games I listed should have been won if Hawk had the team prepared better. He always is in "teaching mode". Fine. He will be in that ALL of next year if he plans on playing any freshman. Three seniors aside, Hutch (2 year starter all MAC freshman) and Matt, (ditto that as a 1 year FULL time starter).
The OU game without Matt playing was right there for the taking. TO's because he had to write things up on a white board. Absolutely no need, if you are teaching less and game prepping more, as it should be as the season progresses.

Now you add in the injuries to the shooting shoulder of your starting PG and an hyper-extended knee for an overweight Demetrius, the two single elements from last year, sans Howard, that literallly shoot WMU into contention to win the MAC outright.

Yeah, the kids could have and should have executed better. Never said otherwise. But the everything starts with the Head. Feet, arms and hands all follow the lead.

RE: 2011-12 SOS
No doubt what you said above is true. I have no disagreement.

Just pointing out, with real numbers, how ridiculously tough our schedule was. Specifically our non conference portion.

I also wanted to point out what some of our peers were doing to acheive success.

Leaving out the MAC opponents, it's fairly apparent Akron and Ohio prepared themselves correctly...without over or underscheduling.

Kent and Buffalo on the other hand did not IMO.

EMU and Toledo had win totals that were inflated IMO. Still good teams, but didn't face near the nonconference schedule that everyone else did.

I think Hawk should schedule the whole MIAA next year. I think we can take most of them although next years team might stuggle with Hope and Calvin.

There you go again. I thought we talked about this yesterday! Sarcasm is not an effective way to communicate :)

If you define their success as beating WMU, then I suppose you can look at it that way.

Rather...I view their seasons as successful (on different levels for different reasons) and ours as not successful.

No sarcasm in that one doctor. Hope gave our senior layden bunch a game for most of the first half. Next year, a rebuilding year could be scary particularly early.

Let me know what happens. I don't plan on following basketball much next year.

If this doesn't get Bronco basketball fans fired up for next year, then nothing will.

Going to take more than that Tex. Folks like yourself can throw on your cloaking device now, but most of you were right there during those game threads letting Hawk have it and making snide comments about Flen and Ward.

Bottom line, if this team is as weak as it appears on paper there will be plenty of empty seats, and very little interest in WMU basketball.

Plenty could have had my season tickets this year, at a discounted rate. But if people want lower bowl season tickets there was no shortage. There's empty seats all over the place in our section, and they're some of the best and most reasonably priced tickets in the house.

If you think I'm a downer about WMU basketball, you should hear some of the junk around me.

FWIW, I've lost interest. I used to sit up in my room nightly and listen to Robin Hook on the radio during the games while doing my homework and such. This year and part of last year I just didn't bother.
