Exclamation MT to Host McNeese State for Season Opener
Quote:MURFREESBORO -- McNeese State, a Football Championship Series (FCS) team, will come to Floyd Stadium for MTSU’s 2012 season opener.

The game, which completes MTSU’s schedule, is tentatively set for Sept. 1. Other non-conference games include at Memphis, at Georgia Tech and at Mississippi State. Dates for the 2012 schedule and the Sun Belt Conference slate will be announced March 1, per league guidelines.

It will mark MTSU’s first-ever meeting with McNeese State, which went 6-5 last season.

Can't say I'm too thrilled with this announcement; I'd have rather seen MT play a local Tennessee or Kentucky team.

That's not a horrible start to the season, and you have decent other OOC games. What is Miss State trying to prove next season, they are playing 3 SBC teams, MTSU, Troy and USA. I haven't looked to see what their other OOC game is.

Just looked, their other OOC game is Jackson St....what a schedule they have for a mighty SEC team.

Yep. We were scheduled to play Tennessee State. Then they backed out of it. Why? Don't know... Now McNeese State? Better be cautious about it. 05-mafia

Chances are one SBC team will beat them. They've had better years than last, and I expect this next one won't be all that great.

Miss St is just doing it for recruiting and trying to have a winning schedule going in to conference play. Believe it or not it really helps their SOS to go on the road and play teams and win than to play them at home. They also aren't exactly a national powerhouse so the trips into Alabama really helps them land 3 star guys.

State has not lived up to their expectations. They need 4 games like this OOC to make sure they qualify for a bowl.

McNeese state is an interesting team to play. Half of their cheerleading squad is made up of cows, much easier to make a pyramid with a cow at the bottom. Their practice field is a myriad of unique training techniques such as: Hay Baling, Pig Berthing, Soybean Harvesting, Manure Shoveling, and the Nebraska Drill, which is similar to the Oklahoma Drill but somehow involves shucking corn. Their band is made up of mostly jug blowers and the occasional tub bass, and they play such classic hits as "Mama just let the sheep out of the pen" and "The manure always tastes better in the morning".

And yet they hold a 20-15-2 lead over ULL in the football series.

It's the Hay Baling...makes there players stronger than normal.
