I would have loved o have seen a western all sports side added to league with SDST,UNLV but at least for now that's not the way the lrague wants to move so Memphis will add to the basketball side and is no worse in football than adding UNLV or New Mexico

I hope this does have "legs." By adding Memphis a few things happen. The nBe gets a much needed football team. It also appeases the BB schools because they are getting a great basketball team. Football will come around. Memphis is putting a lot of money in renovations, practice fields, and other facilities for their program. Joining the nBe will help their cause. It also adds a huge rival for Louisville, and Cincinnati has a history with Memphis. I know it is not up to me for the divisions but I would like something like this for football
East
Cincinnati
Central Florida
South Florida
Rutgers
Connecticut
Louisville
West
Boise State
San Diego State
Navy
Southern Methodist
Houston
Memphis

RE: Kevin McNamara reporting Memphis in talks to join BE.
I think Memphis is the best addition possible other than air force or BYU. This will keep the old members happy because they are a solid team more easternly located. They will provide two big rivalry games in basketball. Louisville vs memphis could become the biggest rivalry game in bball in the Big East. In football, they should be as good as Syracuse and have the resources to become a solid member.

Bearcat, I think you are very close. I see more like take out Navy from the west and add one from UNLV,Fresno, New Mexico r Colorado State for football only and then when Navy joins in 2015 they go in east and try to get Air Force in west to join at same time for a 7/7 split

The reason I put Navy in the west they now have a trophy game with SMU, and would love to play SDSU yearly due to naval base their.

With AQ likely going away it also really doesn't matter about AQ points. Memphis makes sense like everyone said, great basketball and it would strengthen the BIG EAST with the Liberty Bowl as well.
It now all about Bowl Tie-Ins...lock down the Liberty, Champ Sports, Pinstripe Bowls and try like hell-(if ND would help) get in an agreement with a current BCS Bowl-(Orange, Sugar or Fiesta or even Cotton) if possible but still unlikely.

Yes the 14/18 model, doubt that would happen for a number of reasons.

I hope the league does move west. If not there are more attractive east coast/eastern teams IMO. Temple and ECU for state schools come to mind easily and Army for its tradition and rivalries.
I was in Philadelphia last night and this morning before flying back home to Chicago tonight. Football presence in that major market would be huge.

Adding ECU or Tempe forces UL and or UC to the west side I doubt either would be happy with that. That's the main reason I see Memphis and a western football only as the next move.

memphis didn't "lock down" the liberty bowl for CUSA.
Not sure that would be a tie in.

The BIG EAST already has an agreement with the Liberty Bowl...Memphis could help strengthen that relationship even moreso.

tigers would be happy being anywhere if the BE comes calling. They would agree to an Asian/Oceania division. So they would be willing to travel for sure.
Maybe add Hawaii football only and Memphis bball only. :)

To me, Memphis made a statement with their new football coach. Still think next year will be tough, but better each year thereafter

Something I don't think anyone has mentioned yet...
what if this move is a proactive move to make sure that Louisville doesn't ditch us for the Big 12? If the ties are as strong as people say they are, and hearing what seems to be coming Pitino, is inviting Memphis a proactive effort by Marinatto to add stability to the conference? One can argue that the largest targets for the Big 12 is UofL and Cinci. Inviting Memphis helps keep both of those school in the Big East.

No way. Nobody we add will keep anyone from bailing to big12 ,ACC or any of the other current AQ conferences. This is all about the best addition fr never still in the league

I don't think adding memphis would stop any school from leaving.
Louisville would have KU, UT, BU, Mizzou and OSU in bball if they're invited to the XII. Cards could schedule the tigers ooc like now.

RE: Kevin McNamara reporting Memphis in talks to join BE.
If Memphis is in the conference, I see no reason Louisville should object to being in the west as long as we have a guaranteed annual game with Cincy. That's 2 heated rivalries within easy driving distance.
With 2 FL teams in the conference, we'll probably be playing there a bit more often than we have with just one FL team in the conference, even if we're not in the same division with them. And this will help us get into the TX recruiting races by playing there every year.
As far as distance goes, big deal. If there are UofL fans flying to Hartford and Newark, then they'll fly to Dallas & Houston. If they want to sit out the Boise or SDSU games every other year, they'll have plenty of others to choose from.

I've always wanted Memphis in. I still feel the BB side could go east west by putting ND,Marquette,Depaul,Houston,SMU,UL,UC,UM,Temple West division.
UCONN,GT,SJ,SH,Providence,RU,Villanova,USF,UCF,East division.
Would always be the top BB conference, and the FB side would be very much in the thick of BCS. Memphis to west in all sports .Temple to West for BB to avoid conflicts with Nova.
This way the 14/18 would work.

That tweet has gone viral and is spilling all over the web. Love it when that happens. Someone else said and I completely agree, If its coming from providence Its got some long legs. Those type of comments are not just thrown around up here in Friar town. That leak had a purpose. What that purpose is one only knows.
It could be to tell another option to **** or get off the pot so to speak, or it could just be to restock the bball side. If that the case they gotta make Temple a priority. JM has said they had a plan to have up to 24 teams. That would be fun.
