BGSU in-game
25-25 at the half. Could be a lot worse. BGSU has missed a ton of free throws.
I like the tempo...we are pushing the ball a lot more than usual. Hope that continues in the 2nd half.

39-38 emu with 7:26 left. Lampley is having a very good game, as is Anthony Strickland.

Lamps was lights out. Strickland had a big game. Riley does the defense. Balkema the offense.
The 2nd half had as many highlight plays as many games combined. The team finally was able to do some run outs.
Decent sized crowd.
EMU's men and women are in first place in the MAC West.
I watched the game on ESPN's Full Court.

WOW!!!!!!!!!!! What a great win! We are now first in the MAC West.
I was so wrong about Murphy -- he's one of the best coaches in the MAC. He outclassed Orr tonight. Gentlemen, this was a significant win. BGSU is one of the most gifted teams in the MAC, from a talent perspective. By the time the tournament rolls around, we'll be able to play with anyone on a neutral court.
We play with such defensive toughness -- I LOVE IT!!!!! Props to Lampley - a very efficient 20 points. I love watching Riley play defense.

Wow, was that Larry Johnson, Jarvis Basnight, Anderson Hunt, Greg Anthony, and Stacy Augmon...seriously, good win for EMU.

Dear Friends,
Nice win. 55-50. The players have to be getting more confidence as the season goes on, and are probably finding their roles as a team. Different players each game seem to come to the forefront. Like emu steve said: "Lamps was lights out". Keep it up Eastern!

Never mind that they still play 50's style Bobby Plump (Hoosiers reference, aka Jimmy Chitwood) basketball. A win is a win.

RE: BGSU in-game
A few observations I wanted to throw into the mix:
-Quintin Dailey made 3 fantastic plays on the nice run we had in the 2nd half. He had two steals where he literally picked the pass off from Crawford when he tried to lob it over Q's head. The downside of being 5'6 really set in there.
-BGSU's offensive strategy was interesting...they kept trying to go inside, which rarely worked (Calhoun shot 4-16), and passed up some decent 3-point looks to pound it. Normally, that is a solid strategy, but Riley, Balkema, Harris, and Strickland did a great job altering shots and rebounding.
-We miss more "bunnies" than any college hoops team that I've ever seen. It would be much more frustrating if we were losing, but you really want to see kids score more. Balkema, bless his heart, plays his butt off but just can't buy a layup. His offensive rebounds probably won us the game, though, so I'll live with it.
We have a brutal stretch coming up. Don't underestimate Miami...they have some snipers. I hope Murphy plays an up-tempo game against them because they have NO depth. We can go 10 deep, which should be taken advantage of. After Miami, it's @Akron, Kent, and Ohio...we'll truly find out if we can keep "winning ugly" during that run.

Strange but EMU has depth - lot of role players.
NEXT year we'll have tons of depth (honest).
Sure we lose some seniors but add:
Bryant (SF)
Harrison (SG),
Lyle (SF/SF?),
Ross (PG),
Still (PF).
Don't forget that Strickland and Chandler can come back + the returning scholarship players + plus more recruits (?).
E.g., Riley/Balkema, Harris/Still, Bryant/Strickland, Harrison/Thompson/Sims/ etc. Harper/Ross.
Ross is the only frosh in that list.

RE: BGSU in-game
From everything I've read about Still, he sounds like Jamell Harris with a decent touch. He's averaging 18 points, 12 boards, and something like 5.4 blocks at HFCC, but the thing that is perhaps most impressive is his FT percentage being in the mid to high 70s. I think it will be even tougher to score on us inside next year...we'll have 4 tremendous shot blockers in Harris, Riley, Still, and Glenn Bryant.
I hope Harper continues to improve, because we will miss Darrell Lampley, Quintin Dailey, and Antonio Green. Green and Lampley are pretty reliable with the ball in their hands at the end of games. Harrison may end up being a better scorer than Green and Dailey, but both of them have done the little things that have helped us win. Maybe Thompson finally puts it all together?

RE: BGSU in-game
Next year Murphy will continue to play a very long bench.
I can see offense/defense substitutions, e.g., Riley (defense) / Balkema (offense), and Still (offense) / Harris (defense).

Good depth indeed, but I'd still like to recruit a frosh SF for depth purposes.

I'm hoping Sims will step up next year the way Lampley and Green have this year.
