It looks like UWF (University of West Florida) will be announcing its adding football in in a couple months. They are in the GSC.
With Stetson announcing last month that it was adding football this will add pressure on UNF (University of North Florida) to add Football.
Therefore, you have new programs at GSU, ODU, KSU and UNCC with App State, Georgia Southern and Jacksonville State looking to move up. UNF will not be DII or FCS when it finally announces. At that poing FGCU will add football because it will be the only state university without football. So you will have a defacto new conference if they schedule each other.
App State
Florida Gulf Coast
Georgia State
Georgia Southern
Jacksonville State
Kennesaw State
North Carolina Charlotte
North Florida
Something to think about for 2016.
Do you stay up late at night putting together all this FCS snd/or newbie crap ? You'd think that as a Jag fan you would be more interested in their move up to FBS in the not to distant future.
I am very interested and supportive of the Jags football program. I also no this part of the country concerning football interest. Therefore, I am also paying attention to future rivalries that will affect Jag recruiting.
Therefore the the USA Jag football effect.
1. UWF football
2. UNF football
3. FGCU football
4. Jax state football move to FBS
5. UNA football move to FBS (unlikely but they may try)
6. Southeastern Lousiana move to FBS (depends on success of Lamar)
7. Valdosta state moves to FCS
You are in Texas .... so I don't expect you to be aware of the ground situation here in dixie. I am actually looking to see if the GSC adds UWF and moves to merge with the remainder of the Southland or the Lonestar conference. A lot of your NFL player comeout of Non FBS
and FCS programs.
Apparently and thankfully most of the Belt folks in "Dixie" don't share your avid, relentless pursuit of the state of non FBS programs.
Until very recently, South Alabama was in that state of non football/FBS. Therefore, we were in the same boat or worse than some of these programs. So I appreciate any school trying to make the leap.
I know personally what it is like to go from a school without to a school with football. There is a big difference between a campus with football and without football. School pride is extremely advanced by having football. Plus, half the belt schools didn't have FBS/Div IA football programs 10 years ago. I don't get the high and mighty attitude against FCS schools. It is not like UNT has made the sky roar or part the sea since it has been FBS.
I see USA, GSU, UNCC, UTSA on par with the potential of UAB, UCF, USF, UNT, FAU and FIU. This is due to the urban settings. The football landscape is always changing. It definatelly has in Florida. Alabama and Georgia are about to follow. Louisiana and Mississippi are stagnant.
In Texas the pecking order is still
Texas
Texas A&M
Texas Tech (some say Tech is above A&M)
Texas Christian
Baylor
Houston
SMU (SMU appears to rising again)
UTEP
Rice
UNT
Texas Southern
Texas State
Prairie View A&M
And now UNT has to deal with UTSA and Lamar. You don't like it because in your own state UNT is barely recognized as FBS. Now you have to share the minimal stage light with UTSA and Texas State. Yes, truth hurts.
We have to deal with it in Mobile. As I was waiting for Jag football, I paid attention to other schools announcing Football teams. I seen the rise of UCF and USF. Seen what FAU and FIU can do with a little time. It did not take long for them to catch up to UNT.
I get you Mean Green. You are proud to be FBS.
Just be aware of what is happening around you. And you don't get to close the barn door behind you. It is wide open. UNT and the rest of the SBC is going to have to prove it on the field and in the stands. You can't knock any school that out represents you in the stands.
UMASS is moving up to FBS. Villanova is next. App State is close. UTSA is coming to Texas. Texas State is making noise. The band keeps growing and so will the SBC.
So, please excuse me as I state my case to the rest of the belt. You might be surprised that the point view is different where you are sitting. I am just more vocal with my point of view. Hell, I live in SEC and ACC country and here the SBC is not even a consideration. But I represent any way.
Go Jags! Go Mean Green! Go SBC!
